Applying for UK Visa while studying in the Netherlands
Hey guys, I'll be doing Erasmus in Groningen from around January to June 2027. I know that the residence permit allows one to travel freely across the Schengen Area, but I also want to visit the UK at some point during my stay.
As a Turkish citizen, I will need a separate UK visa. I am unsure about when and where I should apply, as I am acutely aware that the application process is quite lengthy, with the passport being retained for more than 2 weeks.
Would it be better to:
- apply from my country some time before leaving for Erasmus, or
- wait until I'm settled in the Netherlands and apply from there using my Dutch student status, if possible?
If there is anyone who has applied for a separate visa while studying in the Netherlands, particularly as a non-EU student, I would be very grateful if you were to answer my questions, such as: whether the application process from the Netherlands was straightforward, the duration of the processing time, and if having a student residence permit proved beneficial.
