I get a ton of spam after applying to jobs on LinkedIn and Indeed
The spam has been continuing 5+ months after I stopped applying. Here's what I tried to solve it:
Trolling the callers by acting like I was a real lead/victim, then saying something very outlandish after wasting their time so it was clear I was a prank answerer and not a real potential sale - failed
Saying I was 14 years old - failed
Do not call (DNC) list - failed
Answering and telling them I'm on the DNC list (they hang up instantly and the spam continues)
Answering and verbally abusing them (hang up and spam continues)
Here's what I think I could still try:
A lot of the calls come from AI bots funneling you to a final expense life insurance salesman if you say you're 68, 72, etc (what I said). If you say you're something else, the call just ends and you continue to get spam. Here's what I'm thinking: Since these callers are probably in the US, I could get a lawyer and start a farm where I act like I'm a real lead, trick them into giving me information about them (they will hang up if you don't), then funneling that to a lawyer where they quickly dish out some lawsuits to those companies. I'd then be able to tell them to either pay me a settlement or I'll take it to small claims court and cost them a couple of grand defending.
I think this could work since I'm literally directly on the DNC list and I still get so much spam it's insane. I'm also pretty sure that it's actually illegal to do outbound AI calls to people, at least in some states. And especially illegal if it doesn't disclose it's AI and acts like it's a real human. So I'm thinking the cases could be pretty strong and we could dish them out as long as I can find who's really behind them.
Yesterday (Monday May 18th, 2026), I got 45 spam calls in total (wtf). On Sunday, I got much much less (they don't call on Sundays?).
Has anybody done this before? Honestly, even if I get the life insurance people off my number, the foreign scammers will probably continue because they don't adhere to the law anyway, but I wanted to see if this is plausible and if anyone has already tried or done this. I might have to just get a new phone number.
