Acrylic block printing medium - tips & tricks?

Hi all,

My partner and I are trying our hand at printing using Adigraf acrylic block printing medium that you can mix with acrylic paint to make a slow drying ink that should be suitable for block/lino prints.

However, our results are not quite optimal. I added two example pictures. One with a nice succesful print made with normal lino ink: sharp lines and even coverage. And the other one made using the paint/medium mixture (2 to 3 ratio) as ink: blurry lines and uneven/patchy coverage. We had poor results with both a roller, and when burnishing it by hand using the back of a spoon.

Does someone have experience with these kind of block printing media? What are we doing wrong? Or, are such media perhaps simply not really suitable?

Thanks in advance,

Sjoerd

Machine with mat loaded, filmed from the backside slot. Mat lifts up; the movie starts with me pushing the mat down every so often to see extent of bulging.

Hi all,

New here, and here comes my first question.
I borrowed an Explore Air 2 from my sister in law, and it made me really enthusiastic about plotting! So much so that I bought a second hand Maker 3.

I am playing around with the Maker 3, and my first projects were just not cutting it (pun intended). I wanted to compare the two, and made the same project (a small design cut from 216 gsm cardstock) on both machines. Using the same fine point knife and settings the explore Air was doing just fine, but even with multiple additional passes my used, but new to me, Maker 3 barely cut through the paper.

I tried a fine-point blade 270 pressure with 2 passes, and 320 with a single pass. Both settings resulted in a clean cut on the Explore Air 2, but only partially cut the paper with the Maker 3 (I'd estimate the paper was cut less than half it's thickness deep).

Is this normal and should I just adjust the pressure untill it works? Or is this Maker 3 defective?

Thanks in advance,
Sjoerd
