I built a Chrome extension that turns bad prompts into great ones – 50 installs, 15 active users in 20 days (first launch ever)
Hey r/chrome_extensions
I want to share something I built out of a very real personal frustration.
I'm a CS student and ChatGPT is basically my second brain at this point — for studying, understanding concepts, debugging, everything. But I noticed a massive gap: the quality of the answer is only as good as the quality of your prompt. I took a couple of prompt engineering courses, started writing detailed prompts with roles, context, constraints — and honestly? The difference was night and day.
The problem? It got exhausting. Writing a proper prompt takes 2-3 minutes every single time. Assigning a role to ChatGPT, adding context, specifying output format — I was spending more time crafting the prompt than actually reading the answer.
So I built Promptforge.
One click. It takes whatever rough prompt you typed and upgrades it — adds the right role, context, structure, and constraints automatically. Your 5-word prompt becomes a proper, well-engineered one without you having to think about it.
Where it stands right now:
- Launched 20 days ago
- 50 installs
- 15 active users
For a first-time launch with zero marketing budget and no audience, seeing real people actually use it daily has been genuinely surreal.
Honest ask: I'd really love brutal feedback from this community. Does the core idea resonate? Is this something you'd actually use? What's missing?
Drop a comment or DM me — every piece of feedback is going straight into the next version.
