New to this all.
Hi,
I'm attempting to read Thomas Merton's No Man is an Island and Seeds of Contemplation and I'm really struggling. I already have some negative thoughts about my ability to understand spiritual complexities. Barbara Anne Taylor's Altar of the World i love, but these Merton books are so challenging. It may be the writing style, but I go from understanding to what he is talking about in one sentence to misunderstanding completely to nor understand the clause (at all). I feel like its repetitive, but i know its important and could be impactful. I think it's a lack of skill. I've tried Tillich as well. Father James Martin and Rhor are easier for me to understand. I am looking for my life (or perspective to be changed). lofty and maybe arrogant im sure. Is this just not for me? I have anxiety and self esteem matters im working on as well. I feel this way when I'm reading the Tao Te Ching. Should I donate these books and free up some space on my book shelf for things im more equipped to understand?
