AITA for not letting my sister and her fiancé stay at my house before her wedding?
I’m 26F and my sister is 30F. My sister has always been the favorite in our family, my parents would never admit it but she can basically ask for anything and they always say yes. I'm usually the one expected to just understand and help. I have a spare room so my sister has stayed at my house a lot over the years. At first I didn't mind but lately she doesn't even really visit me, she mostly uses my house because it's convenient for her. She'll text me things like “I'll stay at yours Friday btw”, instead of actually asking.
Now she's getting married, and the wedding is in my city. A couple of weeks ago she asked if she and her fiancé could stay at my house the night before the wedding, I said "NO". She was surprised and said “It's literally just one night”. I told her I know but I wanted my house to myself that night. The thing is, they already have a hotel booked for the wedding weekend and they're not stuck without somewhere to stay, staying with me would just make things easier for them the next morning.
She told my mom and my mom called me saying I was being selfish. She said my sister is stressed about the wedding and that I should just help her out. I said I understood but she has a hotel. Then my mom said “If you were getting married, your sister would do it for you”. Honestly, I'm not even sure that's true, I've never asked my sister to do something like this for me.
My sister also texted me saying she couldn't believe I was doing this right before her wedding and that I was making everything about myself. Now I'm second guessing myself, I love my sister and I want her wedding to go well, but I'm tired of always being expected to say yes because I'm the “easy” one. It's my house, and I don't think I'm wrong for saying no, but maybe I'm being petty because it's only one night.
so AITA for saying NO?
