Advice for replacing passenger motor mount bushing

Looking for some help from anyone who has done this before:

Is it normal/ok to have some free play when you apply pressure on the bushing? I find I can still move it by about an inch by applying hand pressure. At what point did you call it "good enough" and decide to install the new mount?

Also, what method did you use to get the tabs flush to the mount? So far I've been using a flat head hammer and a pair of tongue-and-groove pliers.
