From "Ghost Towns" to Davis: Why Measure V matters for our long-term future

I’ve been doing a deep dive into the different arguments surrounding Measure V, and as a homeowner planning to stay here for the next 10 to 15 years, I’ve decided I'm firmly in the YES camp.

Here is my rationale, looking at it through a long-term lens:

It protects our property values: A city's desirability is directly tied to its infrastructure and civic health. Passing this is an investment that actually protects and boosts home prices over the long haul.

The "Ghost Town" cautionary tale: I’ve been researching the phenomena of dying towns (like the $1 homes in Italy or abandoned suburbs in Japan). While the contexts are vastly different, the downward spiral always starts the same way: closing schools, a flatlining population, and eventual economic decline.

Vitality draws people (and businesses): Nobody wants to move to a town with a neglected downtown and limited community activities. A vibrant, growing population keeps our schools thriving, attracts better dining options, and keeps the city lively.

To me, a "Yes" vote isn't just about the immediate text of the measure—it’s about preventing stagnation and keeping our community vibrant for the next decade and beyond. We're literally bringing in families who will be invested in on the long term success of Davis.

Curious to hear where other long-term residents are landing on this!
