Whether you like Chud The Builder or not, he doesn't deserve jail.
Did he provoke people? Yes. Did the guy he insulted had a right to physically attack him? No.
If someone insults you, just insult them back or ignore them, but never escalate to physical violence, otherwise the other person has a right to self-defense even if he was being rude first.
