I had played RDR2 before the first game, as I had been told by my peers to start with it first. Now I absolutely fell in love with Javiers character, him, Dutch and Molly O'Shea ending up being my top favourite characters in the game.
I thought his character in the second game could've been really relatable for others, as I found myself relating to him and Dutch a lot. A character so driven by justice, his destiny being put into somebody else's hands when he was found starving, not knowing a lick of english, and becoming almost (seemingly) bound to said person for as long as he could, almost like some kind of stray dog. I admire how loyal and passionate he was in RDR2, they really painted a wonderful character and his actor did an amazing job.
I feel like he seems to be extremely violent or mischievous when said actions are aimed towards people he doesn't like, however his teasing side is still very prevalent with the gang in the first few chapters. ( Thinking of multiple interactions with Bill..) I think he truly cared for the gang, but he was so blinded by loyalty, and Dutch was almost a father figure to multiple people there. I can't say Dutch was a father figure to Javier, but I wouldn't be surprised if they had a relationship of the sort. He's very sympathetic and fun to be around in RDR2; of course he gets super annoying, paranoid and pathetic in the later chapters but I think it works well for him. Even though he was a polite, seemingly outgoing and eager person he did always seem like the kind to be almost impossible to veer onto the right path once his mind was set (like most of the other characters) and I thought that was beautiful, and tragic. I really really adore him!! I wish his friendship with John was more prevalent in the camp interactions, I feel it would've been really interesting to see the vast difference between their relationship in the first and second game. Especially the way John talks about him in the first game and how he seems to be portrayed in the second. I'm well aware he was changed a lot, but I think it still works for his character. I doubt Javier would've had any other kind of ending, although I wish he could've been on John's side sometimes. (Which I'm VERY glad he didn't.. it would've ruined his character, and I much prefer him being a bad guy)
Another thing I wanted to mention is how well groomed he seems compared to the rest of the men in the gang. He's always seemed insecure in a way and very interested in his image, something that I adore about him. This might not be on purpose, but the way he styles his hair covers up alot of his scars, not to mention how you almost Never see the scar on his throat unless he's in his sleeping clothes. I know a lot of people theorise that the scar comes from his reason to flee Mexico; the powerful man he killed, and I feel that is probably the most certain case. I used to assume it was a suicide attempt for some reason though
