New Iggy dad from Spain — intro + a few newbie questions about Zoro

Hi everyone! I'm Salvador, writing from Granada, Spain. I recently joined this community because we just welcomed Zoro, an Italian Greyhound puppy born on February 4th, 2026 (so just over 3.5 months old), into our family — and I'm already obsessed with this breed (and slightly overwhelmed, in the best way possible).

I'd love to introduce him properly and also pick your brains on a few things that are on my mind as a new Iggy parent.

About Zoro

He's 3.5 months old, currently weighing 2.35 kg, full of energy, and already running at speeds that make me question whether I adopted a dog or a small rocket. He's adapting well to home life, but we're in the thick of those early training weeks and I have a few questions I'd love to get community input on.

Potty training — where do I even start?

I've read that Iggies are notoriously tricky to housetrain. We're doing our best — taking him out frequently, especially after meals and naps — but I'd love to hear from experienced owners:

  • What worked (or didn't work) for you?
  • Any Iggy-specific tips or things you wish someone had told you from day one?
  • How long did it realistically take before you saw consistent progress?

Feeding — free feeding vs. scheduled meals + Acana Puppy Small Breed amounts

The breeder told us he personally keeps the bowl always full so the puppy can eat whenever he wants (free feeding). He seemed pretty convinced about this approach. However, I've been reading that scheduled meals might be better, especially at this age — both for health reasons and to help with potty training.

Right now I'm feeding Zoro Acana Puppy Small Breed Recipe. I checked their official feeding calculator using his current weight (2.35 kg, closest option being 2 kg) and an expected adult weight of 5 kg — and it gives 80g per day total, split into 2 meals of 40g each. Since he's only 3.5 months old and experts generally recommend more frequent meals at this age to keep blood sugar stable, I'm currently thinking of splitting that daily amount into 3 meals of around 27–28g each instead of 2.

A few questions:

  • Do you free feed or use scheduled meals? What do you recommend for this age?
  • How many meals per day do you give at 3–4 months?
  • If any of you use Acana (or another premium kibble), what portions are you giving and how did you figure out the right amount?

Ears — one up, one down, both sideways... totally normal?

Every day Zoro's ears seem to be doing something completely different — one up, one flopped, both weird, both fine. I've read it's common during the teething phase, but I'd love confirmation from people who've been through it. Did your Iggy's ears "settle" eventually? Did you do anything to help, or just let them be?

Thanks in advance for any advice — really happy to have found this community. Looking forward to learning from all of you!
