Does anyone else’s Iggy have a problem of eating earthworms?

My IG is 14 and she has been doing this since we rescued her at 5 yo. I know she’s a dog, but it’s still disgusting. She only eats dead worms. She will eat about 20 of them sometimes when I walk her around the block.

I wanted to inquire if this is a common thing in iggys or if it is just my dog being herself?

Freak accident

Our sweet Iggy passed away due to a freak accident yesterday and I’m devastated. He was running around like normal then tripped and snapped his neck. I am shocked and keep thinking what if I did this or kept him in for the day. I knew they could break their legs but I never thought in a million years he could snap his neck. We rushed him to the vet knowing he was already gone and the vet said it was quick and he did not feel any pain. Makes me feel like I should never get a Iggy again because of this….. We loved him so much but never want to go through this again. Broken leg we can do that, snapped neck while running is another thing entirely… We were so careful with his neck we only used harnesses. He was only a year and half old. I feel like I failed😭
Has this or anything similar happened to anyone else?

Luca never “hounds” me while I’m eating. Just patiently waits for the plate after I finish. 😂❤️

I swear these dogs are rigid creatures of habit. If I’m eating, he’s sitting there. Every. Time. Because at some point in our 7 years together I let him lick my plate like twice in a row or something. Luca will sit there all day too, exactly like a statue.

Australian Shepherd to Italian Greyhound

Hi! Medium time lurker, first time poster. I have looked around on Google, but AI slop has overrun the search engine so I'm looking for personal experiences here.

I just lost the love of my life, my retired service dog who was an Australian Shepherd. I love him dearly and I'm not even remotely ready for another dog yet, but I figured I'd do some research on a few breeds I'm considering so I have a nice long time to consider. I will ideally be looking at rescues, but realize that there are potential drawbacks to unknown trauma in a rescue dog's background. That said, I know even individual puppies can be a crapshoot too. If I went the breeder route, I'd probably look for an older returned puppy or younger to medium aged returned adult.

I am NOT looking for another service dog at this time, as my condition has improved pretty noticeably and I was able to mostly retire my boy during COVID. Just a companion.

I adore my partner's mom's whippet. She's definitely not as interested in snuggles and attention as my Aussie was, but a breed that's a little more independent but willing to travel would better suit my current lifestyle.

For those of you who have switched from other breeds to iggies, what did you like? What did you dislike? I've read that they're not typically very barky which would be a huge relief after how anxious my Aussie was at times despite training for separation anxiety. Do you prefer boys or girls, and why?

Tl;Dr: looking at new breeds to consider for my next dog, looking for more in depth opinions and personal stories than Google provides

Meet Dobby ❤️

Hi all I am new here and found this page when looking up what others have done to avoid the screaming in the kennel every time they go in it and potty help.

I have been successful in 2 outdoor poops, he holds in his pee I think because he only pees once a day.(caught him mid pee today and he continued peeing while being carried through the house to the backyard).

We go outside every morning for 30-60 mins for potty, after every playtime, after every nap, after eating and drinking, and before bed.

For kennel we do the treat thing with the door open and closing it behind him. He screams like crazy when he cant see us, we go in if he quiets down and then let him out.

At nighttime I am guilty of pulling him out of the kennel after hearing him for what feels like hours of crying and have him sleep with me and he sleeps all night snuggled up.

My husband does not like him sleeping in the bed with us and I can’t handle the blood curdling screams all night.

Anyway does anyone have any tips? I have owned many dogs in the past(mainly bigger dog breeds) and I have found Italian Greyhounds really are different haha ❤️

My iggy is smart… except when it comes to peeing literally anywhere

Never thought I’d be making this post.

A few months ago, I was that overly confident new iggy parent reading everyone’s potty training horror stories thinking, “Wow… glad that’s not me.” My little angel was so smart. She learned sit, touch, paw, emotional manipulation… honestly genius-level behavior. I thought we had somehow skipped the infamous iggy potty curse. I even made a post asking if all iggys were smart… or if it was just mine? lol

we did not scape the curse.

Turns out she was just a baby. A tiny, innocent con artist.
Fast forward to 6 months old, and my life now revolves around a very unpredictable bladder. This girl pees every 2 hours. Sometimes every 1 hour if the wind changes direction or Mercury is in retrograde. If I don’t take her out on schedule, she may use the pee pad… or she may look directly at it and decide the hardwood floor across the apartment has better vibes.

And the frustrating part is she’s kind of trained? Like… she misses maybe once a day, sometimes zero, which sounds good on paper. But the amount of management required is INSANE. I feel like I’m running a maximum-security prison warden schedule:
-outside every 2 hours
-constant surveillance
-immediate interception if she starts sniffing suspiciously
-zero freedom for either of us

Today I left for 3 hours feeling optimistic. Rookie mistake. I came home to 2 pees and a poop like she was protesting my absence.
At this point I don’t own an Italian Greyhound. I’m employed by one.

Please tell me this gets better because currently my entire personality is asking, “Do you need to potty?” every 17 minutes. Also genuinely curious — how long can your iggy actually hold it between potty breaks?
