GI issues!
Hello! I’ve had my IG Gemma for about 6 months now. She’s almost 9 months old and we have been dealing with constant diarrhea for the past few months. We have tried switching to Purina Pro Plan sensitive skin and stomach (lamb and oat) and are now on a prescription Hills I/d low-fat diet from the vet. She also gets a fiber topper as well as Forti Flora daily. She has tested negative for all the normal parasites/giardia. Recently, we started Reconcile (fluoxetine) for some extreme anxiety we are working through with a trainer. However, with the reduced appetite and eating less, she stopped having diarrhea. She has since gained her appetite back and is moving back towards having diarrhea again. I fully believe that she has IBD and want to know if anyone has experience with this in an IG this young? I go to a corporate vet clinic and they provide no individualized care whatsoever and I can already imagine their response when I ask for a short course of prednisone to see if that helps: “she’s too young”. They say that for everything (including the rabies vaccine, I had to go to a different clinic because they refused to give it to her) but I’m wondering if anyone has had any luck treating IBD at this age. We are past the stage of trying different foods. I will be going to a locally owned vet clinic to inquire about possible IBD but would love to hear anyone’s similar experiences! Thank you!
