A couple weeks ago I took my car to a mechanic because the check engine light turned on. He said it was the thermostat and replaced it.

Yesterday while driving the car began to slow down and shows an engine overheated warning.

I noticed there is some green splashes around the engine and some fresh green liquid at the bottom.

I also turned it on and let the temperature go up and noticed that the coolant level in the tank didn’t change, is this normal?

I appreciate any advice on what to check for first before allowing any other repairs since I’ve already spent 900 dollars on the thermostat replacement. Thank you!
