Regarding Shadow Tower (1998)'s Ending

Hi, I have recently completed Shadow Tower and after going online to get a general idea of what people thought occurred during the ending, it seems the consensus is the King overlooking the land is Ruus himself in a flash foward after his supposed wish to become a conqueror himself.

The thing is with that though is that I don't think that is Ruus as moments prior in the same FMV, Ruus' dialogue is delivered via text and his voice is never heard at any other point (Other than when he dies, I guess).

My interpretation of the scene was that the scene of the King is actually King Rude or another previous host to the crown in a flashback while the conversation between Ruus and the voice of the crown continued in the present with the line "Grant any wish?" by Ruus being responded with the line "This crown gave me power to become a conqueror" by the voice as the camera pans from the king to the crown, revealing the crown contains a demon and that is who Ruus is talking with and giving the implication that Ruus will inevitably be manipulated by it.

I was wondering if there was any Japanese text or interviews with developers that shed any light on the ending as I know Agetec attempted to streamline the story in the west for whatever reason?
