r/KingsField

Played KF2 (US) many times; just can't get into KF4.

I played Kings Field 2 (US) two or three times in period, and since then probably another two or three times. It starts off slow and tedious with plenty of grinding, but the difficult is pretty linear and it's honestly not too confusing on what to do. The difficulty ramps up reasonably, with a few exceptions (like the Dragons that absolute devastate you in the Royal Cemetery) and overall, I enjoyed playing it each time.

I finally decided to play KF4 (The Ancient City) a week ago or so, and I am really not enjoying it that much. It's a lot more confusing, a lot of places that circle back on themselves, some of the difficulty ramps up quickly in places, and the movement is so horridly slow with the weight system. I just got to the central tower and have been trying to kill the xenomorph things without completely using every bit of my health, mushrooms, etc and it's just.... not that much fun.

I have unfortunately spoiled myself on a few things, like the teleportation system.. I was hoping to see something similar to the Icarus parts like in KF2 only to find it's much more limited and requires you make intelligence choices about where to place stones etc. I watched a bit of a "magic only run" and saw a bit ahead of where I am and none of it looks to be getting any better.... More confusing, enemies continue to be increasingly stronger yet all the grinding I've done doesn't seem to have gotten me to a point where fights aren't still difficult. I am level 16, 4290 EXP. I have kind of cheated a bit in terms of as I clear areas, I look at a walkthrough and go back to grab stuff I realize I've missed; but am for the most part not spoiling what's coming up or using any walkthrough to get through an area. With one exception I suppose; one that's insane to me..

The Bangle of Clarity; something almost no player would ever get because it's pretty difficult to get at the stage in which you'd meet the monster that has it. Most people would move on from that part of the game and likely never return there as there's no reason to. Yet it's almost a required item; magic would be almost useless without it. It's super strange to me that they give you such an insanely powerful item so early in the game, but yet make it difficult to get at the time and easy to miss. Seems this would be something found later in the game in a secret area or such when you're really needing to ramp up magic power.

I've put it down for a few days, I'll pick it back up, but.... Anyone else who has played both games find KF4 harder to enjoy than KF2? I have a feeling Souls users may enjoy KF4 more than I am, maybe KF2 was too linear or easy, not sure.

How do I open this sealed door in King's field 1995?

I already have the shrine key and the magician'd key and the shrine key but I don't know where to go and I thought the shrine key would open this door but it doesn't.

Help with King's Field 2 [US]

I am at a loss on where to go. I'm stuck at the Lake before Coram. I have the boots that let you walk on the magic bridge over the water, but it only goes to one little island. The lady that says she can let me into the area that moves the bridges says she'll let me in if I give her "the medicinal herb." But where is said herb? Is it the red herb I gave to the kid? I saw Leon was watering some plants, is it one of those?

Also, please tell me there's more than two Orladin Keys.

Wrapped up the Verdite Trilogy!

KF3 concludes in such a cool way if you go for the good ending. Ties in a lot of lore from KF2 in a way I didn’t expect. I also thought it was cool that (regardless what ending) you revisit a lot of KF1’s major areas towards the end. Gonna take a small break and then go into King’s Field 4. KF Trilogy, Shadow Tower, and the two Echo Night PS1 games are some of my favorite games ever made!

Eyyyyy, we did it! [King's Field US]

Thanks to everyone's help, I beat it! I appreciate everyone's answers on my questions. I gotta ask, though, is there multiple endings? I feel like you get to fight Seath too, and I never got to. I also didn't get the final forms of each branch of magic either lol.

Oh my god, that final boss fight took me a while to figure out. If he's vulnerable to magic, it sure didn't seem that way. Oh well, some dodging and slashing, some healing and shielding, Guyra wasn't that bad at all in the end.

Time for a small break, and onward to Pilot Style!

How to play Kings Field 1 (jp) in PC in english?

Hello, I am sure this is a popular topic, but I've been searching this everywhere and I can't find a clear path.

I am looking for a way to play the original Kings Field (and maybe KF2?) in English on PC. I heard DuckStation was the way but where's the English patch?

I also have a modded PS3 that I can play KF in no problem, but it's in Japanese so I was wondering if there was any way to either translate the game into English. I gather PC is still the best way to play the game, but I also have that as an option if that's better for any reason.

I just cheesed a boss in KF4. Now I want to know what the intended strategy is

So I’ve been working through the series (im in love) and I’m now on Kings Field (4): the Ancient City. I’m pretty deep in and just spent the better part of 2 hours fighting (well mostly dying) to the double giant snakes. I ended up popping in, launching a bolt, then running back down the hallway until one was dead and then ran in to properly kill the other. I tried everything I could think of up to that point to no avail. And what I did couldn’t possibly be the intended strategy… could it?

Now that I killed them, I just need a Kings Field pro to explain what the devs intended for you to do there, because between the poison, paralyzing, biting, and straight damage from the poison breath, I could not for the life of me figure it out lol

I love the texture work in King's Field II

One thing that I've noticed and continue to admire is the way the art team used gradients in the textures to fake shadowing. I also love their use of mirrored textures. You'll catch sometimes the use of textures with 4 way rotational symmetry. ( I think that's the right term.)

The art style of King's Field is what hooked me.

Anyway to Get English translation - Japanese Physical Release KF 1, 2, and 3?

Really would like to play the physical Japanese releases if possible and would like to know if there's any way to get them running in English via mods, etc.?

If anyone knows and can provide or link to some basic instructions, then I would be truly grateful.

[Late Game Spoilers] Couple more questions about King's Field [US]

Pretty sure I'm near the end of the game, since I've made it to the fight with Dias.

- Am I supposed to have the Moonlight Greatsword already? The Homunculi in the tubes mention "the sword and the magic"

- I have the Shrine Keys, but I keep falling down the pit. What is this "the door will open when the warriors stand up"?

- Is there any way to save Gigi's dad? It doesn't say he's dead but doesn't let me really interact with him.

Couple Questions about King's Field [US]

  • Are clear crystals just used for selling?

  • Is magic obtained in a linear fashion? As in, no matter what Fire Crystal I find, the first one I use will always learn me Fireball?

  • Does the Giant Kraken just have a million HP or is he like weak to Magic or something?

  • Is it worth it to buy the Gold, Silver, and Magician's key early on?

Rhombus Keys Were Sort of Not Very Annoying, Maybe (fanart by me)

Fire Crystal (fanart by me)

What is it like to learn magic from a crystal?

I imagine something like your mind being overridden by the echos of crystalized thoughts of magic casters from the past.
