Should I start over or try to salvage this run?

Hello! First time player here, I’m loving the game vastly! I play on Xbox where choices are limited, I’ve loved games like Age of Empires IV, Dune Spice Wars, and Anno 1800, but I feel like this game might beat them all. Im at a point where I have a 100+ army, two profitable Workshops, have help siege and defended many castles, my king gave me 2 but lost them to overwhelming force. The thing is I feel like my king (Garios) keeps making terrible decisions, taking us to losing battles, keeps losing territory, etc. I don’t know what to do or how to help, honestly feels like a lost cause, since other Kingdoms are much more bigger and powerful and we keep getting smaller and weaker; should I start over now that I’ve learned the basics and can have a stronger start, or should I try to salvage this run, help my king (I married his daughter), I rather not betray him, I almost always like an honorable role play in game like these.

P.S. I’ve read there was an update recently that tweaked AI, so maybe Garios won’t be so dummy anymore?

I like a challenge, but I also don’t want it to become tedious, in your experience what’s the best and most enjoyable difficulty for the challenge it presents? I’ve already beaten the campaign in Normal, at the begging it was hard learning the game, but once I got the hang of it it became very easy and completely dominated my opponents, including Beryl which gave me a hard time for a while
