While I came into the morning with a bunch of new stuff lined up, nothing was really standing out as super exciting for me. I picked a few albums at random to start my day.

Spell - Wretched Heart // Poppy Gothy Hard Rock/Heavy Metal // Canada // FFO: Ghost (6.5/10)

This is such Ghost clone that I double checked that it wasn't a Tobias Forge side project. While some metal riffing is definitely present, this is very hard goth rock feeling. I don't love it, but it is a catchy listen with some decent pop sensibility.

Creeping Flesh - God's Acres Rife With Flesh Adorned // Death Metal // Sweden // FFO: Grave, Asphyx (7.75/10)

This is a solid mix of classic Swedish death metal and death doom with some excellent riffs. The death doom tracks are very well placed, breaking up any possible monotony before it has the chance to set in. While it's definitely not groundbreaking, it's a good release worth a listen.

Grimoire - The Madman, the Shiver and the Burning Sun [EP] // Traditional Metal // Poland // FFO:  Coltre (8/10)

While it's broken into 3 tracks, it's really a single song falling just short of 14 minutes. It blends 70s hard prog rock with speed-adjacent traditional metal. Think less proggy Rush mixed with early Judas Priest.

Malconstruct - Entanglement // Progressive Death Metal // United States // FFO: Gojira (6.75/10)

Progressive death metal is either kinda boring or some of my favorite shit. There's rarely an in between for me. This is the kinda boring kind. The last track is the only one that stands out.

Everything else I have lined up for today:

  • Display of Decay - Desolate Dawn, Part I [EP] (Brutal Death Metal // Canada)

  • Furnace Floor - Ceremonial Passage Through Fire (Death Doom // United States)

  • Ashen Horde - The Harvest (Progressive Black Metal // United States)

  • Venom - Into Oblivion (Speed/Traditional // United Kingdom)

  • Putred/Decease - Decessus Putridus [Split EP] (Death Metal // Romania)

What new shit are you listening to today?
