First or neutral at traffic light?
I know this is an age old question but, which do you do? Everyone says the MSF teaches them to stay in 1st when at a traffic light, as if to avoid an accident by zipping away...can someone please explain this? If you're the first person at a light, and If a car fails to stop how are you going to know that this is occuring? I imagine once you realize that a car isn't going to stop and it will rear-end you have what? 1/2 to 1 second to react and zoom away? And this is assuming you're just staring at your rear view mirrors. And where are you going to go? Straight out into perpendicular traffic that's traveling full speed?
If you're not the first person in line (which im guessing this argument pertains mostly to if filtering is illegal in your area), maybe you can just go between the cars, and that's if you're laser focused on your rear view mirrors and not looking forward at the light being red or green.
Also doesn't holding down the clutch put extra stress on the throwout?
Im in California and I just filter up to the front and use neutral. Some of the traffic lights take forever and It's uncomfortable sitting there hunched over with a tight fist.
Im just curious to hear your stories and why you do it?
