Looking for a new computer. Recommendations? AI needs?
Ive bullt many PC in the good old days of Athlons but when i went to build last one just a Ryzens came put, graphics cards had gone rediculous due to bitcoin. So i found a good deal on a Dell with an Ryzen 1700. Its still fast enough for the little bit i use it but it won't support windows 11. I know there are ways to load it anyway, but its going on 8 years old so it might be time to get a new one.
Ive always had a desktop and i think i want to stick with that. But those new Micro PCs have me intrigued. I dont play many games on PC but still want some graphics capability for light CAD. Ive been looking at the Ryzen 9s with the 890m graphics. But now saw the Ryzen AI Max with the 8060s graphics. But damn they are expensive.
It seems like the new hype is AI TOPS. But i dont know anything about AI other than using it as basically a better search engine.
So my question: is it worth spending the money on AI power to be prepared for whats next? What would i even do with it as a casual user? Is it worth it?
Id like to spend around $1000 and have at least 32GB ram. Most of the AI max PCs come with 128GB ram so the proce jumps to the 2k range. Seems like overkill.
Basically i want something solid that will last a casual user 5-6years at minimum.
Any recommendations? Thanks
