Custom Tele HSH wiring question
Hi fellow guitarists and luthiers!
I need help with a wiring diagram for a guitar for my son (15).
His guitar in question is a is a Fender Vintera 2 Telecaster Deluxe. We’ve already replaced the neck with a Warmoth neck and the pickguard with one I made myself based on my sons drawings. It’s his only guitar and he loves it. I love modding and tinkering as much as he does and the time together is priceless.
Current wiring: It has 2 wide range humbuckers, with a dedicated tone and volume control each. There is a three-way selector switch to select the pickup configuration. Standard as purchased, the wiring is not changed in any way.
Now, he likes to add a single coil in the middle. We selected a Seymore Duncan SSL5 single coil pickup between the two humbuckers, so that it becomes a HSH configuration.
I’ve already got all the parts, including three Göldo Mustang Duo switches (they have 6 pins each). We plan to place each below the actual pickup, a bit like the red special.
We want to wire it that way that each of the three switches can switch one of the pickups on or off. The three-way switch should function as a kill switch, regardless of which pickup(s) are on.
The bridge PU should retain its dedicated volume and tone controls, while the single coil middle and the neck PUs can share the volume and tone controls.
I have soldered a different guitar wiring before once, and it worked. So in theory, we’re good to go…
I asked ChatGPT for a diagram, this is what it came up with. What do you think?
Thank you for your help!
