Considering buying in Sunninghill - are there any red flags?

Hi everyone

I’ve been looking to buy an apartment for a while now. I work in Sandton, so I’d like to be within a reasonable commuting distance and time but I also want to make sure I’m buying somewhere that’s a good long-term investment.

I’ve been looking in areas such as Northcliff, Linden, and Bryanston, but I’ve recently started considering Sunninghill as the apartments are newer and in better condition. I’ve viewed a few apartments in different parts of the area, and one thing I’ve noticed is that there seem to be “For Sale” boards everywhere, almost every complex I visit has several units on the market.

Is there a reason for this? Are there any issues with Sunninghill or anything I should be aware of before buying there?

Context/TLDR: I’m not from Johannesburg originally but have been staying in Fourways for a few years. I’ve found an apartment that I like in Sunninghill but am concerned about the area.

Moving to JHB as a young professional

Hi guys, I hope all of you are well.

As the title of this post suggests, it seems as though my time in the Western Cape is coming to an end, and I am looking to make the move to your beautiful city.

Some background:

I'm a young professional - I am a structural engineer with two years of experience in the consulting/design space. I am actively looking for opportunities, but more importantly, I am wondering which are good areas to rent an apartment/house in JHB and surrounds.

Of course, knowing where I would work would heavily impact my final choice of suburb/area, but I would not even know where to start looking for accommodation.

What areas to your knowledge are good i.t.o of the safety to price ratio? Which areas do friends/relatives of yours who were in a similar position to me find their feet?

I'd love to hear more from you guys, and I am honestly looking forward to taking on this new challenge and experiencing your beautiful city.

Have a blessed Saturday everyone!

Can your landlord change the locks if you're behind rent?

My landlord is threatening to change the locks to our backroom flat cause I'm behind rent with 2 months? Can he legally do this? I understand its his house but I'm concerned to be left out on the streets with my daughter and partner.

Rental agreement seems extreme

The terms for canceling this rental agreement seem unreasonable. Is this legal ? I read something about lessors only be allowed to charge penalties that reasonable. This seems far from that. Like life happens, people have to move sometimes.
