Hi! Trying to plan the last leg of our trip and need some advice. I really wanted to go to Koh Lipe for the super clear waters and small island getaway, but it seems like maybe the risk of rain is too high. We’ve decided to be less risky and plan for something in the gulf of Thailand. We will be staying at our chosen island for 8 days.

First option that seemed to fit what we wanted was Koh Tao. There seems to be a lot of negativity regarding backpackers and not many Thai locals. Of course also the rumors of it being mafia ran and dangerous. The water looks great and Nang yuan seemed like a possible contender for a tiny island stay.

I’ve heard good and bad things about samui. The beaches seem a bit bland? Mostly straight with hotels lining everything.

Phangan looks great, but I’m told it’s a Party island.

Does anyone have a good amount of insight? Should I risk the andaman side?

I have heard great things about both places, but I’m scared it’s going to downpour in Koh lipe the whole time. We would be spending about 8 days on the island we choose. Koh samui doesn’t seem like the best fit for what I had in mind. I really wanted an easy and vibrant snorkeling experience.
