Has anyone successfully appealed a subclass 500 student visa refusal at the ART? How did you find a good registered migration agent?
TLDR: Has anyone successfully appealed a subclass 500 student visa refusal at the ART? How did you find a good registered migration agent?
Hi all, after 7 months of waiting I received a refusal on my student visa 500 application. The refusal cited concerns about genuine temporary entrant (GTE) grounds — essentially questioning whether I intend to return home after my studies.
Some context that may be relevant to others in a similar situation:
- I already hold a postgraduate degree from Europe and wanted to pursue a second master's in a completely different field (IT/Business Analytics)
- I have a de facto partner in Australia which was flagged as a potential incentive to remain (although he is also from my home country and we have strong ties there)
- I did minimal casual work during a mid-trimester break in the mining company I worked for to do my regional work during WHV, which was also flagged
Our original agent turned out to be an education consultant rather than a registered migration agent, which I believe significantly affected the quality of our application.
I'm now looking at lodging an ART appeal and want to find a properly registered migration agent this time.
Has anyone been through the ART appeal process for a 500 refusal? Was it successful? How did you find your agent?
