Secondary insole to reduce volume?
I am looking for advice on how to add thickness underneath the removable insoles of my boots.
I have long feet (US Men's 13-14), but they are not very tall in the vertical dimension. Even when the width of the footbed is comfortable and sung, I often cannot pull my laces tight enough to get the shoe firmly snug around my foot, as the sides of the shoe come into contact with one another before the shoe is tight.
This issue occurs across multiple brands and styles of shoes, so it must be a consistent issue with the dimensions of my foot.
I'd like to experiment with adding some sort of volume reducing material under the insole. I think I want a material that is flat, firm, easy to cut to fit, and resistant to compression. My plan is to remove the existing insole, install this new material at the very bottom, then put the factory insole back in. The factory insole would provide the same shape and cushion, with the new material taking up some of the extra volume.
What type of material should I look for? Something like closed cell foam? Or is there something else that would work better?
Thank you.
