A Potential Long-Term Marketing Win

What do you think about this idea?

For every 1 million units sold, the developers release one character for free.

I think this would create a much more positive relationship between the community and the game because players would feel appreciated and rewarded for supporting it.

It would also encourage players to recommend the game to others, even during periods when the game isn’t at its best, since everyone benefits when sales milestones are reached.

Another advantage is that the developers could add characters they know wouldn’t sell well as DLC, but that some fans still really want to see in the game.

Over time, this could significantly improve the game’s reputation and standing within the community. In the long run, a happier player base could lead to even more sales.

It would also increase the chances of players eventually seeing their favorite character make it into the roster.

Would this be a smart marketing strategy, or am I overlooking something?
