37 months after cold turkey Klonopin – persistent physical muscle and joint sensations (“disconnect” feeling)

Hi everyone,

I stopped 0.5 mg of clonazepam (Klonopin) cold turkey about 37 months ago after long-term use.

In the beginning, I had strong withdrawal symptoms, and during the first 1–2 years I also experienced periods (“windows”) where I felt mostly normal again.

After a major stress event in mid-2025, I developed a more persistent set of physical symptoms that have remained since then.

The main issue now is a persistent physical sensations in my muscles and joints:

I can generate normal strength
But I don’t feel the muscle contraction or internal “pressure” like before
My muscles often feel soft or lacking normal tone, even though function is still intact
At times I also feel the opposite (episodes of increased muscle tension)
My joints sometimes feel disconnected or not properly integrated with movement
This sensation of altered muscle tone is present throughout the body and fluctuates slightly

I have been fully medically evaluated over the last few months, and nothing significant has been found.

I still experience very mild improvements at times, but not the clearer “windows” I used to have earlier in recovery.

I’m trying to understand if others have experienced long-term physical muscle and joint sensations like this after benzodiazepine withdrawal, especially after a longer timeline like mine.

Any experiences or insights would be appreciated.

Thank you.
