Successfully got compensation from Booking.com
I had a bad experience with a host on booking.com. Very rude and racist Italians.
Booking.com sent me an email promising a refund (which the host agreed to). Later the host flipped and booking.com sent me 25 euros as opposed to the promised 550 euros.
He’s the script I used:
- Remind them you’ve contracted with them and not the host.
- Money goes to booking.com which is an aggregator so they can refuse to pay the host and pay you instead.
- Aggregation is a regulated activity in pretty much every country (financial services regulatory lawyer here :) ) but booking.com doesn’t take licenses in all jurisdictions, so threaten to complain to your central bank - this is a big one.
- Threaten to complain to the relevant tourism and commerce ministries and to open a file with a consumer tribunal.
- Hope for the best.
I even got a call minutes after I got my refund with apologies.
If this helped you, can you please drop a 1 star rating at any/ all of the De Vivo properties in Positano/Sorrento/Salerno, Italy? They’re the ones that screwed me.
