This might help somebody

I don't know if this will help anyone else but I thought I would write of my experiences with the development of my migraines and how I seem to have come up with a solution in the hope that if only one other person were helped, it would be worth it.

I am a 70+ year old woman (obviously post-menopausal) who started having rather intense migraines in my late 60's but otherwise quite healthy. The migraines were always hit or miss - some months would be single, some multiple, some quite intense, some with just pro-drome or post-drome, and mostly one-sided temporal.

At my last physical, I had blood work done and my A1C was creeping up into the pre-diabetic range and my doctor said "yup, that happens as you age" but I was determined to do something about it. I have always eaten pretty healthy - but hey, we all need treats, ha! - so I ordered a glucose monitor online and started watching what I ate. Well, this was eye-opening to say the least. It took about 2 months of tweaking my food intake .... working with timing of meals, adding fats to carbohydrates to help regulate sugar, even cooking foods in a better way (some foods drop their glycemic index if cooled after cooking and then get reheated).

Okay, so here is the big news: I have my glucose under control and my migraines have abated. I haven't had one in over 2 months now that I have my glucose staying in a low range. I don't wear a monitor continuously ... usually 2 weeks with a week long break between. I plan to continue this strategy until I have things firmly in control since I know things can change. I am really happy with direction this appears to be going in though and I just wanted to reach out and maybe, just maybe, help someone here. This community has been so supportive and filled with wonderful suggestions - I wanted to pay to forward :)
