Stay in specialty or move for better location?

Hi everyone...I’m feeling a bit torn and would really appreciate some honest input. I’m a recent grad that accepted an L&D position starting this summer in Texas. My preceptorship played a big role by building connections with the staff there, so it feels like a real step into the specialty I’ve been working toward...and I'm excited to have broken into L&D so early on. At the same time I’ve been feeling pretty homesick. My family is in southern California so I keep thinking about moving back for the location, potential pay, and honestly my overall mental health.

My question is do I stay and start my career in L&D in a state I’m not fully happy living, or try to move back home and potentially take whatever I can get in southern California...even if it means leaving L&D behind for now? I know how competitive California residencies are so I feel like my chances are very slim, but would it be worth trying? Another option I’ve been considering is just sticking it out for a year, gaining experience, and then applying as an experienced nurse to California L&D residencies. I’d also love to hear if anyone has insight into my desicion/how helpful nurse recruiters actually are in southern California, especially for new grads or early career nurses. Thank you!
