Going to IEM Cologne Major with my partner. I don't play – what should I look out for so I can enjoy the matches with him?
Hey everyone! My partner is a big Counter-Strike fan and I managed to get him and me tickets to the stage 3 in Cologne. Since it's coming up this Friday I really want him to have the best time possible. I've never played but have watched a few games with him already. I get confused quite easily tho and ask a lot of questions. In order to not talk his ear off, I'd really appreciate some tips on what to look out for.
I know the absolute basics (bombs, eco rounds, ...), but what should I be looking out for when watching a match live in the arena? Who are the hype players or teams right now that the crowd will be screaming for? How can I better orientate myself on the maps? Any tips on how to read the stadium screen so I know who is winning?
I've always got a tiny list of jargon that viewers say/write which I'm planning on sprinkling in to make him laugh (no ideas if these are correct):
- "good eco" = team went in with cheap stuff and won --> then I say "ok now go full buy"
- "half buy" = when the team went semi cheap and bought smg's after the first half, everything's back to zero and then I should say "this pistol is important" (especially if its like 8:4)
- clutch = someone wins the round alone
Incredibly grateful for any tips or tricks. Thanks so much!
