Submitting right now or waiting for waitlist

I could use some advice from people who have been through a waitlist situation before.

I'm currently waitlisted at my top-choice DO school. I recently scheduled a feedback meeting with admissions because I assumed I would likely need to reapply this cycle and wanted to know what areas of my application needed improvement.

The conversation surprised me. The admissions representative told me that my application was essentially where they wanted it to be and that I had received very positive interview feedback. They then suggested that I wait until the end of July before submitting a new application because, in their words, I am "in a really good spot on the waitlist."

My dilemma is this:

I know early submission is important, and I don't want to hurt my chances next cycle by waiting until late July to submit. On the other hand, the admissions representative specifically suggested waiting because they felt there was still a realistic possibility of being accepted from the waitlist.

If you were in my position, would you:

  1. Submit the new application as early as possible to maximize reapplicant timing?
  2. Follow admissions' advice and wait until the end of July before submitting?

Has anyone been in a similar situation where admissions encouraged them to wait because of their waitlist position? How did it work out?

I know nobody can predict what will happen, but I'd appreciate hearing how others would approach this.
