Can't change Wi-Fi on Tesla Wall Connector Gen 3? Here's the fix

Today I finally solved a frustrating issue with my Wall Connector and wanted to share the fix, because I suspect others are running into the same problem.

Situation this applies to:

  • Tesla Wall Connector Gen 3
  • Wi-Fi is already configured (previously connected to a network)
  • You want to switch to a different Wi-Fi network
  • The new network is visible and in range, but the app shows no networks at all

What doesn't work:

  • Regular Tesla app → select Wall Connector → Settings → Change Wi-Fi. The app scans for networks but finds nothing.
  • Browser via direct connection → connect your phone or laptop to the Wall Connector's own Wi-Fi network and navigate to http://192.168.92.1/service. This no longer works for configuration on Gen 3.

Possible Root cause:

It seems that the Wall Connector is still connected to your old Wi-Fi network. Probably, because of this active connection, it cannot scan for other networks, so any app or interface that relies on a scan will come up empty.

The fix: Tesla One app:

Tesla One is officially intended for Tesla employees and third-party service technicians, but it works fine with a regular Tesla account via the third-party login option.

  1. Install the Tesla One app (iOS or Android)
  2. Log in with your Tesla account, choose the third-party login option
  3. Go to the "More..." tab (bottom right)
  4. Select "Setup Tesla device"
  5. Choose "Manual input"
  6. Enter your new Wi-Fi SSID and password manually

The key difference from the regular Tesla app is the manual input option, you don't need the connector to scan anything. If your credentials are correct, the Wall Connector switches to the new network immediately.

Hope this saves someone an hour of frustration!
