The WOT is satire.
Ok. I’m not a regular redditer and I’m 45, so have pity if this is in the wrong place, etc.
I think the series is (at least in part) a satirical take on gender roles, and the part society plays in enforcing said roles. There is no way Jordan didn’t see this while writing if he hadn’t realized it before. There’s just too much “women am I right” and “ugh men” for it not to be satire.
At first I couldn’t stop laughing at the dated 90’s way of thinking. I graduated high school in ‘99, so it felt very familiar. But the more I read the more I think “this is satire. It’s so clearly pointing out how limiting (and absurd) assigning characteristics to a person based on their gender can be.”
Obviously I could be wrong. But if so he unknowingly created something that brilliantly points out how many ways boxing people in based on gender can go wrong.
