Friend found this signed D20 adaption of Wheel of Time at a flea market

Apologize if not allowed. Friend that collects old toys & comics found this The Wheel of Time D20 adaption signed by Robert Jordan in a box of old toys/comics he bought. Trying to find some info about this but all we’ve come up with is there was a limited promo signed edition sold online, he was hoping he could try and trade for something that he collects. Any info/help is appreciated!

WOT Refresher

Hi, so I read books 1-8 but it’s been about two years since I finished path of daggers. I don’t love Roberts writing style so I kind of never went back to the books but I do love the story and characters so now I’m wanting to get back into and finish the story. The only problem is I need refresh myself with what happened in books 1-8 but I do not want to go back and reread them. Is there anyone that can give me a quick summary on each book or is there somewhere I can go to get this? TIA!

My girlfriend’s first read!

My girlfriend and I are long distance, and she decided to buy the first book so we can read them together after I finished my latest re read. She can’t comprehend how much joy this brings me.

I'm a New Reader, and Book 8 might be my favorite

I haven't quite finished this book, I have chapter 24-30 to read but this book has me knee deep into the story from its very beginning, and it's only getting more and more exciting the more chapters I read.

I have read quite a few things about it, most of them are negative, calling it part of a run of books called "The Slog" that ends with the last book RJ wrote. Initially I thought book 7 is sloggy, and I got worried that I may have to take a break and read something -I read all the books in a row without any breaks- but it was proven wrong. Maybe because I like politics? Or maybe because Perrin is my favorite while Rand is my second favorite? It could be that, but hey, I love the series so far, it has it's flows though I'll preserve judgement for when I finish, as I expect the things I find negative are going to be fixed in hindsight.

Other than the Nyneave-Elayne plotline from leaving Tear until leaving Ebou Dar, that one I extremely dislike.

Doubt

Hey everyone, I have a quick question. I just binged The Dragon Reborn, and there's one thing I'm really confused about. Regarding Thom, it keeps being mentioned that he used to have a thing with Morgase, but I can't tell if they were actually in a relationship or if Thom is just blowing smoke. I'm not sure if I missed some key details. Could someone clarify if this is legit or just Thom messing around?

I'd love an answer, but please: if this gets brought up or revealed later in the series, whether it's a joke or not, no spoilers. Just tell me to keep reading. But if it's something I already overlooked and should definitely know by the end of book three, please fill me in, because every time this guy hints that he and Morgase used to be lovers, I get completely lost

PLEASE SPOILERS FREE. Just tell me in case I missed it

The most "hated" WoT book was actually good

Going in, I was bracing myself. I'd seen countless posts warning that literally nothing happens.

But to be honest, I had a great time.

RJ is such an amazing writer, and while certainly not much happened, I was never bored. It slows down, and with that, you get to appreciate the sheer scale of this world and story.

My favorite moment was when all the Wise Ones, Aes Sedai, and Asha'man looked towards where Rand and Nynaeve were cleansing saidin thousands of miles away and were in awe. Like you can feel the gravitas of what's going on.

The Mat chapters at the beginning, I genuinely found compelling (but that's for most Mat chapters) and the Tuon and Mat dynamic is something I love RJ explored a little more.

Ah yes, the infamous finding Faile. Not so bad? I went in fully prepared to skim and then I just... didn't enjoy skimming it. So I slowed down, gave it a fair shot, and it was pretty good.

Could this book have been condensed into a couple of chapters tacked onto the end of Winter's Heart? Maybe. And do I understand why it's the weakest in the series? 100%.

But was it still an enjoyable experience? YES!

P.S. happy 4th of july!

Verin is the only aei sedai I can put up with

Ok so im midway through ACOS and I cant put up with any of the aei sedai outside of the main POV characters and Verin. Ik Robert is making a long point on how the telephone game works basically with all the misinformation given to everyone but it makes most of these supposedly very knowledgeable and intelligent women look stupid. Like whenever a situation or a person of interest(Rand) comes up theyre only willing to consider the possibility they want to believe until geniunely shown in their face otherwise and even then they still fuck about. When deciding what to do about Rand they never even consider the idea of that they are under estimating him on his army or his ability to gather hundreds of male channelers in a few months. To the contrary tho Verin has to be the most chill aei sedai out there bc shes willing to wait before taking action until she has information. Or shes willing risk it all for some knowledge like in book 2 shes risk everyone's lives on the portal stone just for the plot like shes geniunely like "I just wanted to see what would happen" probably my favorite aei sedai since then

I need your help

Hey everyone! I just finished The Dragon Reborn, the third book in The Wheel of Time, and I’ve got to say I really enjoyed it. I managed to follow everything perfectly, and I can feel the story finally starting to take shape, which I love.

I’m reaching out because I’d love to see some illustrations, maps, and fanart. Based on my experience with other series I’ve finished, I know better than to look things up myself when I’m not done yet, it’s just too easy to run into major spoilers regarding characters and plot points. Since many of you have already finished the whole series, I’d really appreciate it if you could share some of your favorite spoiler-free artwork or pieces that only cover events up to the end of book three. Thanks a lot! (If you want to share artwork with spoilers, it can only go up to the end of the third book)

Trying (probably fruitlessly) to quantify channelling strength.

Ok, kids. I've decided to be REALLY stupid and try to do this shit again. Let's get into this.

There are very few things that are quantified in the WOT universe, especially with channelling, but I think I've come across something that may be at least some kind of visual indicator showing how channellers grow in strength and output as they climb the rankings.

We know one of the more difficult feats of the power is lifting objects with flows of air; it's considered very simple, but very difficult. We have a few examples of channellers lifting things: Moiraine lifting the gilded chair, Elayne lifting the copper kettle, Rand lifting the tent components, etc. I began wondering if the ability to lift was a possible avenue to determine strength, so I focused on two feats (or, in the case of the latter, the telling of a feat): Morgase fluttering the scarf in Malden, and Suian claiming she could lift three times her body weight at her original strength.

The reason these two are comparable is that they both represent an absolute upper limit for the lifting capacity of two channellers of the same sex, with one being the absolute lower limit of channelling. Of course, in doing this, I made several assumptions and am blatantly ignoring some issues of affinity and stressful vs. casual limits, but I got too carried away and had to just share it with someone.

The biggest issue here is figuring out the force used on the scarf; this is where assumptions need to be made the most. We know Galina was using a red scarf as a signal and that it was tied up—we're not sure against what—and that Morgase used it to draw someone in to rescue the girls. In the books, it's said the scard when rigid sideways before swinging like a pendulum and releasing to go limp. This manoeuvre took Morgase a very long time to produce and can be assumed to be her absolute limit.

The first assumption is the weight of the scarf. We don't know its material, but I'm making the assumption it's ~20-30g. I'll use 20g in my calculations and then give a full range at the end. For going taught and swinging like a pendulum, I'll figure out the force required to lift a scarf to 30 degrees to swing back and forth from a vertical resting position.

To calculate the force required in N, you'll need the following:

mass (m) x gravity (g) = weight (N)

m = 20
g = 9.81

0.020 x 9.81 = 0.1962N (Scarf's weight)

Weight (N) x Angle from vertical (Tan(90)) = Force to move the Scarf

0.1962 x Tan(30) = 0.113N (Force applied to the scarf to make it taut and swing gently)

Next, we need to figure out Suian's lifting capacity. We know she can 'lift 3x her body weight', so let's assume her body weight. She's described as 5ft5in and sturdy of build. This would put her somewhere between 140lbs and 160lbs. I'll start with 140, or 63.5kg, and go from there.

63.5 x 3 = 190.5Kg

190.5 x 9.81 = 1868.8N (Force to lift 3x Suian's body weight)

Now, we need to figure out how to go from Mogase's strength to Suian's, and how to find the non-linear increase between the two. I'll break the ranking system into 78 levels from 72(60) to ++6. Suian is 13(1), equal to 19. Morgese is 72(60), equal to 78.

78 - 19 = 59.

Now, we need to figure out how to get from Morgase's 0.113N to Suian's 1868.8N, an increase of 16512.4x. We know that increase is non-linear, so we'll use exponential multiplication:

0.113 x X****^(59) = 1868.8N

Rearrange.

X****^(59) = 1868.8 / 0.113

X****^(59) = 16512.4

X = 16512.4^(1/59)

X = 1.179 = 17.9% increase for each step.

If the scarf was 30g and Suian weighed 160lbs, the increase would be 17.35%.

Due to the way the increase is proportional to the pair, the lowest range would be if the scarf was heavier and Suian was lighter at 30g and 140lbs. This comes to 17.08%. While the greatest range of a 20g scarf and a 160lbs Suian comes to 18.18%.

The higher Morgase's scarf weight and the lower Suian's body weight, the smaller the jump proportions. I've shoved all four different models into a log graph for you to see clearly.

And if you're wondering why I'm using a log graph, it's because using a standard graph gets you this:

Not helpful...

Anyways, this is kinda stupid since channelling it is pretty abstract, but I wanted to play with it a little and see what I could make. Also, here's a list of the full scale range and a few corresponding channellers:

Recently started the wheel of time a few questions

So I’ve just started WoT, I’m probably in the first 3rd of book 1. And I have a few questions

So first of all I sometimes struggle to keep an image of locations or characters in my head and kind of forget alot of the details, but I’m scared of going on a character’s wiki to reread their description or google images to refresh the image of the character. The answer is probably yes but is that all very spoilery territory?

Also, I am fine with names, but with how long this story is, would you recommend I take notes or watch recaps in between books so I can remember details or does the author do a good job of reminding you of things?

I’ve heard that book 1 is very different from others, what actually changes?

Lastly, is there anything I should know about the books before I get into the rest of book 1 and the series (that could be anything from a fun easter egg to novellas I should read before certain books).

I’ll probably update as I finish each book

(first time reader) Thoughts on TSR Chapter 15

Wtf lmfao

Okay, just finished reading and I feel like I went on some weird drug trip but this chapter was lots of set up for the future of this book.

Firstly, those people inside the ter'angreal seem to me like those who might be working dark arts on the Pattern. I really don't know if it's right to know what the Wheel of Time has in store for the future, but I get the feeling that what they do isn't entirely right. Or maybe it is and this just adds another layer of complex morality to the mechanics of the Wheel.

Secondly, Mat marrying the Daughter of the Nine Moons and the mention of his living, dying then living again. The first I have no idea what to do with, but the second makes me think of Manetheren and his connections with it. Then there's him taking half the light of the world to save it, and I feel like maaaybe that has something to do with Rand being the Dragon Reborn? I don't think it's coincidence that Rand was also in the ter'angreal at the same time.

Now, I want to speak about Rand being in there but I also have to say that Rand - as himself, where he is mentally and how he's expressing himself - scares me. I can't tell if the Taint has begun taking a latching hold or not. I know that there's something to do with Lews Therin but I know nothing else. I don't know what Rand has planned but I feel very scared, especially after seeing him kill all those Fades and Trollocs. Moiraine might know what's going on with him, but I feel too scared or anxious to think too much about it.

That's the post for now. I'm excited to see what else this book offers me.

How much will these characters suffer off-screen after the series?

Hey.

Liandrin, Sevanna, Galina, Suroth, Elaida, and Moghedien.

Each of these characters ends up as slaves.

Moghedien and Elaida as damane.

Liandrin is currently a da'covale, but that could change if she and Moghedien meet in captivity... And every secret simply comes to light.

Suroth is a traitor, and Tuon is particularly keen on Suroth suffering as punishment for her betrayal.

Sevanna is the captured commander of an enemy army, but the Shaido simply don't matter anymore, so she could simply be a trophy. And given her beauty, she could potentially be a shea dancer like Amathera earlier.

Galina became Therava's slave, and now, Therava can torture Galina to her heart's content.

In my opinion, Galina got the worst of it.

Sevanna might suffer the least because of her beauty and least importance to the Seanchan.

Elaida and Moghedien... Yeah, the damane's fate will definitely be hard on them.

Liandrin will suffer more when the truth about her comes to light.

Suroth will have a hard time as a traitor, but perhaps in time Tuon will forget that Suroth mattered at all and should suffer especially.

So I think:

  1. Galina (the most intense suffering)

  2. Elaida

  3. Liandrin (after it's revealed she should be a damane)

  4. Moghedien

  5. Suroth

  6. Sevanna

Generally, I think damane will simply suffer more than da'covale (though obviously each case is unique), and Galina is the worst off because she has a personal sadist focused on her suffering.

So, what do you think?

The breaking

This has increasingly bothered me with each book. I don’t understand how what seems pretty essential was lost to the white tower. traveling seems pretty essential. How did they simply forget to continue teaching it?

Edit: so what triggered me was Cadsune remarking that it had been lost since the breaking. That turns out to be just before her conversation with a wise one who knows the/a weave. This tells me two things, one (duh) the Aes Sedai really are stuck up muppets (love how the wise one points out they have to flutter their hands around but the Aiel don’t need to) and second the importance of strength to construct the weaves.

Flame & the Void Guided Meditation

Hey all, I am a meditation instructor and a massive fan of WoT.

The meditation offered at the start of the Eye of the World has always stuck with me.

>"Remember the flame, lad, and the void.” It was an odd thing Tam had taught him. Concentrate on a single flame and feed all your passions into it—fear, hate, anger—until your mind became empty. Become one with the void, Tam said, and you could do anything."

This simple practice is basically a mindfulness practice, but with additions that are perfect for beginners. It is now a practice I offer regularly because simply put, it works.

In traditional mindfulness, you pick an object to focus upon (the breath) and when your mind wanders, you gently return it to the breath. This approach works great, but often new practitioners struggle with the letting go aspect.

What's more, there isn't guidance on when to stop the practice and simply 'be'.

The flame and void technique offers practitioners something to do with all the thoughts, emotions, and sensations that arise (offer it to the flame) and when there is nothing to offer, they can release the flame and simple be (in the moment/self/void).

How to practice:

>1: Visualize a flame (object of meditation).
2: Feed it all emotions, thought, and sensation.
3: When there is nothing left, release the flame.
4: Embrace the void (present moment/mindfulness/self) that remains.
5: If needed, begin again.

Yes, this practice was 'made up' by Jordan, but so were all meditation practices. This one works, and works well for beginners.

I have created a 24 minute guided session for adults, and a 6 minute guided session for kids following the above protocol. Listen here if you are interested :)

Two Rivers Tobacc

Two Rivers Tobacc was famous in all the mainland and even in the Aiel Waste. Meaning it was commodity sought after greatly. This should have brought alot of money in the village and merchants.

Then why was it ignored by Andor? Seeing the potential of taxes. Also the wool was exported, I think.

After the last battle.

Is there any indication if the turned channelers will turn back to the light after the dark one is sealed away? I know they can't turn them back to the light before that but it would make some sense that once the dark one is locked away the connection to him would be severed.
