Divorce and living costs

People talk about divorce like it’s just signing papers and moving on. In reality, it’s two households instead of one, double the bills, rent prices that are insane, childcare costs, legal fees, and the fear of starting over financially in your 30s/40s/50s.

I know couples who are basically roommates because neither person can afford to leave. Not because there’s love left, but because surviving alone feels impossible right now.

I keep asking myself: how many relationships are being held together purely by economics?

The weird part is that staying also has a cost. Stress, resentment, loneliness, walking on eggshells every day. You save money but lose peace.

I’m not even sure what the “right” decision is anymore. I just know the current cost of living crisis changes the conversation around divorce in a way people don’t talk about enough.

Has anyone else felt trapped between financial survival and personal happiness?
