October Jumpdate

Well maybe will do one mid month if my production spikes for October. We'll see what happens.

Since the last Jumpdate there's been a few new jumps:

  • Marvel Registration Era - It'd been in the works for a long time, since Thor Vol 1 at least, and bits even before it, but it was a huge chunk of stuff. Still that's finally done.
  • The Book of the New Sun - Sci-Fi classic from the 80s.
  • Robin Hood (Ballads) - The classic ballads of Robin Hood (as opposed to the plays and literary tradition that they spawned).
  • Fantastic Four ('67) - The 60s cartoon. The jump just sort of happened.
  • 60s Gothic Horror MMM - Keeping up my tradition of doing October Monthly Jump Challenges the year after.

And since it's that time of the year, I actually do have plans and plots and schemes of offerings to Jack and his ghosts and ghoulies for this festive season. In theory I want to try and make at least 1 jump in each of the following categories: Slashers, Vampires, Zombies, Monster Movies, and Child-Friendly Spookiness. Honestly would probably like to do at least 1 about more spiritual/occult horror (ghosts, demons, and witches), and maybe 1 that fits into Kaiju, and like a Werewolf jump. Not sure if I will even try to do any of those.

High probability jumps:

  • Wrong Turn: Cannibal slasher films. Should be done this week. Would cover Slashers.
  • Tomb of Dracula (Vol 1): Marvel's original Dracula comics. I've read more than half, and at current rate should be done before the end of the month, faster if I don't decide I have to read 20 issues of Werewolf by Night again. Would cover Vampires.

I intend to at least try at:

  • Alien (Films): Definitely doable, but might not happen since AvP does a decent job and has some darn perfect Xenomorph perks, but I'll re-watch the films and see what happens. At the very least there are elements (Prometheus and Covenant) that generally aren't touched. Would cover Monsters.
  • Anna and the Apocalypse: Zombie musical. It's a single zombie film so high chance it won't work out, but might make a fun gauntlet. Would cover Zombies.
  • The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo: I'll probably end up watching the show in the later half of the month, and I'll give it a try. Would cover Child-Friendly Spookiness.
  • Night of the Demons: Not sure if these will come together as a jump, but I intend to rewatch at least the first 2 this year and if they seem like they will work well watching the rest isn't too much trouble. Would cover Ghost/Demon/Witch stuff.

There are more possibilities that are bouncing around in my head (like a book I'm planning to read that maybe I'll try to do something with if I get around to reading it) but those are the most likely ones atm.

Ideally I'd be doing 13 jumps this month, but while I know it's possible for it to happen I'm not about to make that promise.

Marvel Registration Era... Powers

So I'm starting to work on the final phases of the Marvel Registration Era jump. This will be figuring out from the mass of perk/item ideas which ones go where and which ones will get shunted to General or cut out entirely.

After that I will write the Powers section. I already have a list of characters whose powers need to be available. I am not going to give the list because I want to see what other people believe is essential to the 2004-2010 period of comics focusing on the Avengers. X-Men have their whole own series of things going on separate enough to be almost another universe, and as awesome as the Annihilation stuff is, it's Cosmic stuff and not Earth based. Further things get away from Avengers the less likely they are to be included. Even Thor stuff is only being included because Siege is rather Thor focused and as the final chapter in the Registration Act events sort of important to include.

I will note, that Sentry's basic powers (not reality warping against the Mole Man because the Void has already been taking control over him on multiple occasions at that point) are intended to be included with the Void's stuff as a Scenario.

Lewd Greek Myth (Jump)

Making this was a dumb idea but once I had it I had to do it. Unfortunately somewhere shortly in I realized I don't actually peruse Greek myth porn parodies, so instead it mostly got based on sexual things in the actual myths. And thus a lot got stuff from Ovid (not really a good source for Greek mythology being a Roman poet who was going for poetry over the actual beliefs).

Item 163 on the Menu... I should have waited to make 6 more jumps to finish this... oops.

Still writing out that nameless jumper, part 4 now

Went to Dead Gods. Not actually sure if it really needs to be tagged NSFW but there are references to sex, and I think some outright gore. Also you know people eating the souls of their own kids and excess villainy.

Probably wouldn't be past PG 13 but just in case.

No clue where I'm sending them next.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 (MJC entry)

Large thick crust with double cheese, ham, pepperoni, and no anchovies. Just the way Mickey likes it. I'd honestly have sworn someone had said they were going to make this soon years ago while I was working on the Mirage Comics TMNT. But since there's not one in the drives... Have this pizza on the house.

Item 161 on the Menu. It is also just barely tipping the median decade for Jumps I've made from the 80s to the 90s.

Thinking about Lost (TV Show)

Mostly about re-watching it. And since it doesn't have a jump that means making a jump for it. ... If I actually make it through the entire series on the re-watch. Which is a substantial if.

But that means thinking about origins, and the like, so... what origins would you put in Lost? What would you want to see in a Lost jump?

The writing bug really bit me (A Nameless Jumper part 3)

So I continue to write. It's really just for myself, and I haven't done any editing or reading back over my word vomit, but... Jumper became an eldritch abomination/genius loci with a divided up mind and someone might want to read it.

It doesn't cost me anything to post it in case someone enjoys it.

I have no idea what the next jump is going to be. If you want to suggest one that fits someone who just spent a decade as an eldritch horror with his mind fractured into 6 pieces and a body that was measured in tens of thousands of cubic kilometers let me know.

I continue to write for writing's sake

But I figure even if it's not really written up to the standard of 'to be read by others' and is sort of hastily put together where you can see where my steam runs out for a world and I just start summarizing the entire period (which is unfortunately actually where detail should expand because it's going further off canon rails), some people might want to read it so:

A story about a jumper in Chrono Trigger. The previous story/part with the same jumper (where they ended up in One Piece without any CP based purchases but just dropped there by accident) and the builds for the 3 previous jumps they did that didn't get stories (because I wanted to write about when they had stuff from several worlds working together) are at the bottom, below the build for this jump.

Leaning towards Generic Genius Loci as the next jump, or maybe another one before it. Not sure what world I'd put the Generic jump in if I do it.

August Jumpdate

Welp, another month, another jumpdate. More jumps than last month at least.

  1. Dino-Riders for 80s Toy Commercial fun.
  2. Samurai Warriors 2 Would have worked for this month's MJC.
  3. Planescape Way too long/large. Still philosophers with clubs in worlds where belief shapes reality.
  4. Shogun The book sometimes credited with introducing the West to ninjas.
  5. Other Songs Proof I really wanted last month to be Philosophy.
  6. Walking with Dinosaurs Bookending things with Dinosaurs.

Currently progressing...

I got distracted from long term Marvel again. Gomen.

I got distracted from long term Occult Horror with watching Dinosaur Documentaries.

I got distracted from Turn A Gundam with Occult Horror.

Nothing particular in the works right now.

I'm not even actively watching/reading/consuming anything.

Walking With Dinosaurs (Jump)

Cretaceous Rock Candy. So Walking with Dinosaurs. Really this would have just been Life of a Dinosaur, except my knowledge of dinosaurs is generally speaking terrible, so I re-watched the documentary series, based things on it, and if anything is too much scientifically wrong I can blame it on the documentary and its many documented inaccuracies.

Am I allowed to have two entries for the Monthly Jump Challenge? Since this one is a lot better than Dinoriders. Like a lot better.

As always the menu. Now serving jump #160. The 2nd jump about being an animal with a random 'you're human in the middle of a wild ecosystem' background as drop-in. This time though you don't scale to the size of the things around you.

Uplift Update

Made a minor update to the Uplift jump. Namely I added a scenario related to what we learn about the Transcendent Order of Life in the 2nd trilogy, with an end spark option if you actually successfully fully transcend (which might not actually be possible without OoC stuff). Still, it was getting under my skin that I did a sci-fi jump with transcendent beings and didn't include an end spark for becoming one.

Which brings things up to 18 End Jump Scenarios, and 1 Scenario that isn't explicitly an End Jump and listed on the menu as a ?.

And since I want to list them, I will... In order they are:

  1. Conquer the Marvel Earth and hold it against all-comers/solve all the universe threats that the various X-Teams would over 15 years, up to an including a Sorcerer Supreme with the Phoenix Force performing an Omniverse spanning spell. (X-Men)
  2. Stopping the Apocalypse by killing the forces of Heaven and Hell including God... and then making sure the universe doesn't stop existing. (Alestorm)
  3. Space Gods that have been using your chain as an experiment, incorporating things from it, have decided to end the experiment, and will be pursuing you to end it. Oh, and even before they were drawing powers from you 'creating a universe' was the level required to be considered their equal. Survive a decade without them harvesting you. Given the scaling factors probably the hardest end jump I've made. (Heroes Reborn)
  4. Repair a dimension that exists between/outside of time and space, and gain mastery over its connections... while being judged as morally worthy of transcendence by higher beings (Land of the Lost)
  5. Forgo starting with 1500 CP worth of Items you already purchased to scatter them among sorcerers and warlord kings. Then you have to gather them, each item of power you gain making the other 2 that much harder to gain, until the third is a 'worthy challenge' and then use the 3 items as a key to the cosmos. This could let you rework the universe, re-writing some major rule(s) and do so in each future world, or you can permanently expend their power to ignite your spark. (80s S&S MMM)
  6. Resist assimilation in a gestalt entity that transcends space and time, bending the full gestalt to your will and making it a part of you. (Princess Resurrection)
  7. Deal with most of the major shit in the Marvel universe from the Silver Age till All-New All-Different Secret War. (Marvel Lee-Kirby)
  8. Help a race of evil reality warping cosmic horror aliens ascend to a higher level of existence. (Dark City)
  9. Become a vampire god who rules over the fabric of spacetime across the Marvel Earth against all the people who will try and stop you (X-Men Curse of the Mutants)
  10. Get dumped into a Battle Royal with a bunch of jumpers, and manage to instead of playing by their rules, kill the Benefactors behind it and escape (Horror MMM)
  11. Deal with all the major threats Thor has to deal with, and obtain transcendent Wisdom and mastery of the runes and defeat those Who Sit Above in the Shadows who are gods to the gods themselves. (Marvel's Thor)
  12. Defend a megastructure against all-comers from all sorts of Space Opera settings up to and including the stupidly powerful ones. (Ringworld)
  13. Change worlds, expand the borders of their maps, and their knowledge of their own worlds, often enough to fill a slowly growing spark, explicitly requiring you to continue your chain for a while all while said slowly growing spark feeds your local rivals powers once you've set forth on the task of filling it in a given world (Reign the Conqueror)
  14. Take the piece of time traveling, physical reality transcending futuretech and build a version that transcends the multiverse and tap into omniversal energy. (Brisco County Jr.)
  15. Be judged by God to be without sin, and a worthy protector of the Grail and messenger and servant to work His will across the omniverse. (Le Morte d'Arthur)
  16. This one.
  17. March into a multiversal city in direct defiance of its ruler whose rules can be summed up as "She wins no matter what you do" and re-shape reality as she tries to stop you (D&D Planescape)
  18. Defeat all the reality-warping rulers of the Earth and Moon, unite them both under your reality warping aura, and fight off hordes of eldritch horrors while you do it (Other Songs)

? Escape from your role as entertainment. Listed reward: Your freedom. Whether this is failing the jump, sparking, or something else is deliberately not clear because modern art/post-modernism. (The Monkees)

Other Songs (Inne piesni)

Other Songs. So I'd say this is another one for 'Jumps nobody asked for and nobody wants' because boy I don't expect anyone to know a Polish novel without an official English translation, but someone in a Jumpchain community recommended it to me, so it's kind of asked for. It is still part of my growing collection of jumps where Alexander the Great being a being whose existence warped the world around him is major and significant, and yet another jump where Aristotelian philosophy is relevant.

The menu (159 on it).

Planescape (AD&D 2e)

Planescape. The D&D campaign setting covering the non-Prime Material Plane planes. If you know it you know it, if you don't... well it's demons, angels, the Blood War, strange geometrical shape beings, and philosophers with clubs.

The jump also got way out of my hands. It ended up stupidly, excessively long to the point where it became problematic. Too much to balance. Too much to think about. Too much. At some point I might add more Companions or Adventures; there really do need to be more Inner Planar ones but the setting was 90% Outer Planes with 1 book and 1 Monstrous Compendium for the Inner Planes. Right now, though, I'm done with it for the foreseeable future.

Dino-Riders (Jump, Monthly Jump Challenge - Dinosaurs)

Dino-Riders. A 1980s toy commercial with 13 episodes and a special. It's about two warring alien factions who crash land on Earth roughly 65 million years ago. Instead of being shut down until their ship revives them to carry on their war in the modern day, they instead encounter dinosaurs and decide that the best thing to do is to mount weapons from their ships onto the backs of dinosaurs and carry on their war by riding dinosaurs into battle. It's not actually my favorite 80s toy commercial, for years I thought there was only a 2 part special which just wasn't as good as some of the others, but no it's a full series. It's not nearly as good as the classics like He-Man, or the Transformers, and honestly falls shy of the likes of Dungeons and Dragons, Visionaries, and probably Gobots it's been a long time since I saw Gobots, but 80s toy commercials was a fun genre of tv show and this one has dinosaurs.

It's #155 on the menu. It's the 8th jump made in the last year based on a non-anime TV show, and the 2nd in a row made based on a children's cartoon that had a line of Marvel comics running alongside them.

Also my attempt at a Dinosaur jump for the monthly jump challenge.

Edit: Added a dinosaur follower option. Left sapiency of it unstated.

Uplift Storm update

Uplift jump, now in version 2.0.0 after updating to include the second trilogy (Uplift Storm). This should be the final (and first, and only) major update to the jump.

July Jumpdate

Welp it's that time of the month again.

Since the last Jumpdate:

  • Apocalypse Hotel - Cozy post-apocalypse vacation.
  • Phantastes - A Fairy Romance for Men and Women... and old enough that Romance didn't mean what it does now.
  • Spider-Man Unlimited - Spider-Man vs Thor's dorkiest Frenemy firmly holding a Villain Ball (bring the comic book High Evolutionary with you and watch him berate the cartoon version over how while his belief that humans suck is correct his methods are demonstrating just how human he and his bestials are).

Upcoming projects:

... I should be finishing Planescape, continuing Gothic Horror, and thinking on something Dinosaur(?) for the MJC

I'm playing an old Samurai Warriors game instead.
