White/black names

I'm curious about your opinions on this.

I'm white and my daughter's biological father is native.

People forever now have named their kids after flowers, ( Iris, Rose,) etc., and gemstones, (Ruby, ... You get the idea). Anyway, when I was thinking of names for my daughter, I really wanted to name her Onyx, at least for a middle name because it's my favorite stone.

I caught hell for it because I was told that's a "black name". I disagreed because that's no more true than a child named Ruby would have to be red.

Thoughts?

People

I hate that we live in a world where people can get this fucked up. That there can be such casual hate and opposition to each other. That we can accept so many fucked up things as being common that it will soon be considered normal. There just aren't enough people with concern for others to fix it.
