Neutral or girls name suggestions please.

Hello Reddit community! I’m here as sort of a last resort because I hate my current name and would like to find something else to go by. I am 100% aware that this post might not get any traction and I’m ok with that. For anyone that may be here that may want context, I am a 15 yr old girl and my current name is Jolin. I hate it and want something else to go by but haven’t found anything that appeals or that has stuck. I’ve liked the name Riy but I’m on the fence about it, and is the only name I like so far. I don’t have many guidelines, just that any suggestions be gender neutral or female but not overly feminine if that makes sense? and that suggestions not be to long or difficult to pronounce because my pronunciation isn’t the best. I’m looking for a more nickname vibes but it doesn't have to match my real name. Any ideas are welcome and very much helpful.

Please help! Need a name in 5 days!

Hi, I am 18(f), and I can finally change my name! But im so torn, so please help. My current top contenders are: Selene, Ivy, Hazel, Esther, Sylvie, and Eve. I have a Chinese last name, starting with Z and pronounced like Jo. I am going to uni in Canada, BC, for reference. I'll keep the following as concise as possible, please please bear with me, I really want some namnerds help on this.

Selene: I like how it sounds + looks, sleek. But Celine is the more common spelling(especially in Canada with Celine Dion), and I don't like this spelling, nor correcting people. Also, somehow Selina/Selena is kind of a megapopular name among Chinese students just like Vivian, I've met 6, and when I searched my uni's classof2030, a ton came up, and yes 95% of them are Chinese. I don't really want to join this Selina-gang.

Ivy: I like the sound and how this sub says it's 'subtly edgy but still chill'. But it's only 3 letters, I find it a bit short when written. Also, it's getting viral among kids. I'm also a bit worried if this name is too 'pretty' for me. I am not the dainty pretty girl type(but also not boyish), I don't know if this name gives off that dainty image like Cecilia.

Hazel: My old name starts with H, so there's some connection. I also like it feels a bit 'quirky' and it's not too pretty. But again, it's popular among kids. Also, the sound of it isn't pleasant in Chinese - it's the exact same as "black" + "walk", Im not sure how much I mind that. I also worried that Hazel Zhou(Jo) doesn't look or roll of the tongue that well together. I am not into hazelnut or the hazel color.

Esther: I like that it sounds distinct and looks special. However, I don't like the strong Biblical connection. Also, there was an IG video with 100k likes about how this name is one of the super super popular Korean english names. Funny enough, my old name is also on the list. And yes I have been repeatedly mistaken as Korean, which is a bit annoying.

Eve: Like how it looks sharp and that it meant night/life. However, theres the biblical association, the same megapoularity with all the Evas and Evelyns in my uni, and it's even shorter than Ivy. And I also know an Eva and also sort of know an Eve.

Sylvie: Like how it looks. However, this name is very dated in the French area. I checked Canadian's name stats, and boy, there is a lot of people with this name in total (and they are mostly not my age), even more than my old name(which is very very popular among millennials).

❤️ That is all, if you read till here, thank you soo soooo much for the time. I really want to know how you guys think. Yes I will bring up the options to my friends, but I want some namenerds' advice first! TIA

Can Ashton be a girls middle name?

My partner and I are choosing my last name as our girls last name. I am wondering if we can use his last name "Ashton" as the baby's middle name, or is it too masculine?

Sibling set

Recently discovered I’m pregnant again! Our first children are twins, named Linden and Rowan.

I prefer gender neutral names and I like single syllable middle names. I’m loving the name Reese for new baby.

Open to all suggestions for first and middle names that go along with my first 2 :)

thoughts on Florence

I’m in the uk 🇬🇧
What do you think of Florence? I personally like it it goes well with our surname. My partner likes it, our families do not😂 they said it’s old fashioned. I didn’t think it was that old, my niece is 6 and has a Florence in her class. I also love the nicknames Florrie, Flora etc. it also reminds me of Florence and the machine who was my fav artist as a teenager

Well I am now pregnant with my 2nd set of twin boys and we havent decided on the names. I had the thought of naming them Stephen and Samuel also from the same shows. My question is do you think thats too much?

My favourite names when I was 10

I just found a list of my favourite names from when I was 10 (or possibly 9) and I think they're pretty damn funny so I'd like to share it with you all.

Girls:

Trinity

Roxanne

Stormantha (I remember wanting to call her Stormy, and for some reason thinking that she would be taken more seriously if her full name was Stormantha)

Ariana

Katie

Josephine (with the intention of calling her Joey)

Boys:

Pacey

Joseph (with the intention of calling him Joe)

Dawson

Kyler (the idea was that it's a mix of Kyle and Tyler)

YOU DON'T GET TO CONTROL YOUR OWN NICKNAME.

It's self obsessed and overly precious to try to decide the different versions of your kid's name that will be used before they are born. Discuss.

Thoughts on Orosia?

I came across this name for the first time today, it’s the name of an obscure 9th century Spanish saint. Another spelling of the name is Eurosia. It’s a very rare name, but it seems interesting to me. Thoughts?

you roasted my baby name site last week. I shipped every single complaint. round 2

Last time I posted here, someone pointed out that my "Origin and Meaning" section

contained neither the origin nor the meaning. He was right. Noah was showing up as

Germanic. Noah.

So instead of arguing I spent the week shipping the whole thread:

- Real meanings and etymology now, with the dictionary source cited right under each one

- Added official birth records from England, Scotland, Ireland and France, so you can

see where a name is actually popular right now

- A "% of babies" view, name days (with an explanation, because nobody knows what

those are), fictional characters, similar-sounding names

- Every section shows a small badge for where its data comes from

The idea behind the site is simple: name sites mostly copy meanings from each other

and cite nothing. I want the one where you can check every single fact yourself.

Free, no accounts.

Round 2. What's the first thing you'd check to decide whether you trust a site

like this?

Mexican girl names

I already have a Yesenia Guadalupe. I like the idea of the girls both sharing a Y first name and maybe even the same middle initials also but I’m not set on that. Also idk if it’s a girl yet, I just like being prepared lol

I really like Ysabella or Yasmine for the first name

Some middle names I have are:
Giselle
Valentina (baby will be born close to Valentine’s day, idk if
this is cute or too on the nose? )
Marisol
Graciela

I’m open to different ideas! I think I really like the longer more feminine princess names. I love my first daughter’s name so much the only ones that come close for me is Ysabella Valentina or Ysabella Giselle

Elena
Rafaela
Valentina

Antonio

Alfonso
Álvaro
Lorenzo

Some combinations I like are:

Isabel Eulalia, María Paulina, Valentina Pilar, Rafaela Juana

Antonio Isidro, Santiago Lázaro, Fernando José, Agustín Leandro, Lorenzo Pedro

Edit: Other combinations I like are Teresa Florentina, Casilda Adelaida, Álvaro Pío, Elena Margarita, Alfonso Ricardo

Alternate name for secret santa

Hello, I run a magic the gathering event that has different themes each season. One of the seasons that will be permanent is a secret santa style season. However we have changed the scheduling of the event and it no longer happens during November/December so I can't call it secret santa anymore.

The secret santa theme work as when people sign up they submit 3 "gifts" and they are given 2 "gifts" that have been submitted.

The event thats secret santa themed will now be happening in October so I would like a name that fits around Halloween.

Middle name for Lila

What middle name would you suggest for a daughter we want to name Lila?

We have Spanish and Italian roots and a Spanish last name, so I’d like the middle name to fit that style.

We pronounce Lila as “Lee-la.”

Is Agustin usable in the US?

I really like the name Agustin, it’s the Spanish version of the name Augustine. But I wonder if it could be too hard to say or spell in English since people are used to other spellings of the name. I want a name that works in both Spanish and English.

I don’t like other variations like Augustine, August, Augustin, etc

Whimsical, soft baby boy names?

First we had Rowan picked out but due to rising popularity (even a family member naming their baby due before mine Rowan) we decided to axe that name completely. Which is hard because I emotionally attached to that name but so far these are the names I like

Julian/Jules
Linden
Leo
Finley
Finneas
Archer/Archie
Lennon
Howie
Harrison
Sonny

Will be using Gabriel as the middle name. Named after my brother so that will not change! :) Thanks in advance <3

Unique Baby Girl Name Advice/Suggestions

Just had our third and last baby girl and we are having a hard time settling on a name. Our first daughter is Alethea, second daughter is Vera. We like unique names that are not too out there but also not super common, and have a nice meaning. We do like the ‘a’ sounds at the end but would like to avoid starting with another ‘A’ or ‘V’.

Originally I had picked Zaria but my husband was not on board. Also loved Adelina but wanted to avoid the ‘a’ starting names (both me and first born start with ‘A’). We currently like these three:

Elena (like that it has the same ending ‘a’ sound)

Ivy (I love this name but it is quite popular and I’m not sure it flows nicely when said with the names of my other two)

Ettalina (our top pick at the moment, very uncommon and love the Etta nickname. Worried it’s a little too out there and made up sounding? Came up with this after hearing the name Ettaline)

Open to other suggestions!
