Sienna

This is a beloved name right now & i am curious to hear your thoughts!!

Me: I honestly like the name Sienna a lot, but i dont love it….

Also do you think Sienna becoming popular again after maybe 15 years is because of the song “Sienna” by The Marías, which was popular on tiktok last year ?

I named myself Chloe when I was eleven… but I don’t know if I should keep the name

Hi! I’m a seventeen-year-old living in Asia! When I was eleven, I went to an english camp that required an english name to participate. I didn’t have a proper english name at that time so I just named myself Chloe and went with it for seven years. But now I’m worried Chloe might be outdated or maybe a bit too childish. I never got the chance to live in western countries so I have no idea what vibe my name gives. Can you please give your opinion on Chloe?? Would really appreciate some recommendations too!

Going by middle name

I don’t plan on changing her name because that seems like a bunch of fuss over nothing, but I definitely prefer my baby’s middle name over her first.

Her name is Thalia Photini, but we knew Photini was going to be part of her name since we knew she was a girl. I’ve been calling her Tini or Photini and almost never Thalia. If I do, I call her Thalia Tini because it sounds like a pasta. I know people go by their middle name but that’s usually when their name is something like Trafalgar James. The “weird” name is the secret name.

edit: We are Melkite Catholic (think Greek-Lebanese and looks Orthodox) so Photini and its variants are not uncommon in our circle. It’s the name given to the woman at the well in the bible. Means something like “illuminated”.

My daughter has been born and we need to choose her name

It was important to me her name will honour my father. I did not like his name as a name itself, so instead we looked for names that had meanings connected to either his name, or something that he would have liked. Now we have six names and these are the ones. But I have trouble choosing the one for her.

Originally her name was going to be Yuliya. So that is the kind of name I like, I like it to be pretty. We don't use middle names and we currently live in Poland.

Solomiya - Peace

Kalyna - A Ukrainian symbol

Daryna - Gift

Vitaliya - Life

Halyna - Calm

Yaryna - Peace

What’s the best name here? I cannot decide!

Ok I’m changing my name because I hate it and it’s never pronounced right, I’ve been wanting to do this since 4th grade lmao.

Anyways I’m 17 and I have a long list of names I like but I can’t choose. Ideally I’d want a name that could work in multiple countries without really having to struggle.

These are the names

Maeve
Saskia
Lucia
Brigitte
Viktoria
Kira
Nora
Romy
Leah
Zoe
Anneliese
Liv
Aurora
Violet
Scarlett
Stella
Imogen

I’m half Austrian and half Norwegian so I originally wanted a name with one of those backgrounds but I don’t really mind anymore. I more so like names with atleast one sharp letter like V, K, and R.

My personal favorite so far is Violet but I’m not too sure how well it’d work in Norway and Austria so I may use it as my middle name instead.

Let me know what name is your guys favorite, be brutally honest!!

Emma

I’m pregnant with my first girl and I really want to name her Emma, though I keep getting comments that it’s too “basic” and “a basic white girl name” (said by my niece), is this a bad thing? I’d like more opinions!

I also like Peyton, but my husband doesn’t like it.

Negative connotations relating to the name Mila

Hey guys it’s been a long road for us trying to find a name for our baby girl. I’ve finally found a name that we mostly all agree with. Just wondering if there are any negative connotations, meanings in a different language or associations relating to this name that anyone can think of?

Gender neutral?

I wish I found this group when I was pregnant. Bc I had a beautiful boy and wanted a gender neutral name. I went with ivory. Short, unique, and easy to pronounce. I’ve known a guy and a girl with the name. But everyone assumes he’s a girl.

I’m starting to regret giving that name to him. Bc even though I love it and think it fits him perfectly. I don’t want him to have to always correct people.

When you hear the name do you think it’s gender neutral?

NYC middle names

We did IVF in NYC (From CA) and want to find a cute middle name for our daughter Charli that reminds us of nyc.

Brooklyn, Chelsea seem too obvious and I don’t feel like they go with Charli. Any ideas?

It will be either Ada or Lidia, just wanted to ask around for your opinions :)

Lydia is not an option due to the wrong/bad pronunciation of it in the country we live in.

Gus

While I have nothing against the name Gus, it really doesn't strike me as a spectacular name. I am a high schooler, and I have four classmates (among a class of about 150) named Gus. I think at least three are nicknames for August/Augustus/Gustav, but I still feel like it's an alarming number of Gus's. Is Gus really that great of a name/nickname?

Want to honor my mom…

My mom passed away last July. I am pregnant with a little girl and would love to honor her by incorporating her nickname (Cha, think cha-cha-cha) into my daughter’s name. My first born has a gender neutral name, so I want to try and stick with that theme. Would love any suggestions!

Thoughts on a girl named “Vinca”, going by “Vinny”?

I’m pregnant and we are both trying to decide on a name that we both love. My husband is a gardener and we both love Vinca flowers. We also love more masculine nicknames for girls, and we think “Vinny” would be adorable. I’d be nervous to tell my family about this idea because it’s not a “real“ name, though I think that it sounds beautiful. What are your thoughts?

What do you think?

I’m due in July to my beautiful baby girl. I plan on naming her Frankie June. What do you think of the name? I do worry about it sounding too much like a nickname, but I’m just so in love with the name!

Name association

Would you associate Emerson with a male or female ? I like it for a boys name and traditionally thought it was one however, there seems to be an increase in little girls having the name .

Advice Needed: Considering giving our child a name our family member wants to use

I am heavily pregnant and my husband and I are considering naming our son William.

My SIL lost her father when she was young—his first name was very uncommon so he went by a nickname version of William, his middle name. We had NO idea she was considering giving a future son William as a first name until we threw it out as a general possibility for us. Then she and her husband got a weird look on their face and said they were considering that name after her dad. She said it would be fine because who knows if they’ll have another son, but I could see some panic in their faces.

For background: My SIL just had a son she named after her husband’s family, already has a daughter, and is not currently expecting, but may want to try for one more.

Should I avoid William entirely? It has been my favorite name for a while but I would feel awful if I robbed her of the possible chance of naming a future son after her late dad.

Character Names

Hello all, hoping you might have some suggestions on names for some characters in my book, since I'm several chapters in and really happy with how this is coming together...but I just can't seem to lock into the right names and need some external advice. The setting is the present day.

First, I am looking for something that's like "Linus," which I feel is the right vibe, but it doesn't have a good nickname--"Li" just isn't sitting right. Any suggestions for a name that kind of conveys that same nerdy, gentle vibe with a better nickname? (Or if you have a better nickname suggestion for Linus, I'll take it!)

Second, I am looking for a name similar to "Hannah" that also nicknames as nicely as Hannah does (Han, Hannie--Hanners if you're British). But Hannah's my best friend's name so that's too odd to use; I also have crossed off Elizabeth and Christine because those are family names, too.

Thank you!
