Is it weird to love a nickname but not really like the full name it comes from?

I've had the name Theodore on my list for years, mostly because I absolutely love Theo.

Theo feels warm, simple, and works just as well on a kid as it does on a 40-year-old adult.

The problem is... I don't actually like Theodore that much.

I don't hate it, but if Theo weren't attached to it, I don't think I'd ever consider using Theodore on its own. And for some reason giving a child a full name I feel pretty neutral about just to get the nickname feels slightly backwards.

I know Theo is used as a standalone name now, but part of me still likes the idea of having a longer formal option available.

Has anyone else had this with a name? Loving the obvious nickname way more than the name it's traditionally short for?

Did you use the full name anyway, go with the nickname as the legal name, or eventually choose something completely different?
