Screen tearing when frame generation is enabled after a driver update.
Has anyone else encountered this issue? So far, it seems like I’m the only one having it. My GPU is a GUNNIR B580 TRI. After updating to driver version 8801, enabling Frame Generation in games while FreeSync is enabled on my monitor causes severe multi-segment screen tearing. I also tried enabling VSync in-game, but it had no effect.
When I disable FreeSync on the monitor, the tearing improves significantly, although there is still some slight tearing during fast camera movements.
After disabling FreeSync, I also tested the GPU driver control panel settings:
- “Enable VSync”
- “Disable VSync”
- “Smart VSync”
These settings cause the severe tearing issue to return again. Only “Smooth Sync” and “Application Controlled” do not produce major problems.
I already used DDU to completely uninstall and reinstall driver 8801, but the issue still could not be resolved, so I had no choice but to roll back to driver 8737.
I noticed that this driver update also updated the XeSS Frame Generation files, so I’m wondering if this update may have introduced a conflict with anti-tearing technologies like FreeSync/VSync.
