Coils were dirty... Received quote for filter

Conducting some research on quotes I received.

The invoice says and I quote:

"Dynamic Polarized Media Air Cleaner - 1" Filter Cabinet"

They came over to clean my coils for the HVAC unit and left to grab something. When they came back a sales rep was with them and the guy went up with the service reps to clean ? But he came back down and told me I needed a special filter and it was $2,200.

That seems like a lot for a filter? It does say "Included: Filters & Air Quality Bulbs" .. Is that like replacements and thats why its so much?

Also if they can just clean the coils why would I need some heavy duty filter rather than the paper ones I currently have?

If anyone could provide insight please I'd really appreciate it!

HVAC Depreciation / Market Value

A little over 2 years ago I "purchased" a water softener and HVAC unit from a company that I've come to find out was going to profit $16K above the cost of installation by charging me a "lease fee" and I'd never own the equipment. The equipment in question is:

American Standard: 4 Ton 20 Seer

Installation Cost: $20,182 / Monthly Payment of $277.12 for 119 Months = $32,977.28

Excalibur Water Softener and Zurn Pressure Reducing Valve:

Installation Cost: $5,050.00 / Monthly Payment of $75.22 for 118 months = 8,875.96

Total Cost: $41,854.24 ($16,621.24+ profit)

I've recently gotten another company to come out and quote me for a comparable unit and water softener and received the following:

(Comfort Maker) 4 Ton HP System; 19 Seer 2) $18,824.95

48K Dual Media Softener (2 year warranty): $3,295.00

Pressure Reducing Valve (1 Year Warranty): $995.00

Total cost: $22,685.00

The first company has offered to convert the "lease" transactions into purchase transactions and reduce the purchase price by crediting the payments we've made.

I'd prefer that they take their equipment back and I get new equipment from the second company. But

  1. What would the cost of uninstalling the equipment be that the company would be incurring? and;

  2. Is there a market for the used "A/C" unit and what would they be able to recoup by taking back their equipment?

If anyone could give me insight I'd really really appreciate it.

Super random and a long shot but a friend went hiking today and hasn’t posted / logged anything on Strava. His location on Find My was showing 7 hours ago but hasn’t come back up now at 9 hours and switched to “no location found” I have his last known coordinates. Who can I contact to get any information on whether he’s hurt or something? He’s logged every hike and has either sent the group pics or posted on his socials, so it’s unlike him to not update.
