TIFU By Letting My Shiba Play with a Pinecone... How can I get him to stop obsessing over them?
TLDR: Shiba Inu obsessed with trying to pick up pinecones. Any advice for fixing this without picking up all pinecones constantly?
Hi all,
So... we just moved to a townhome recently and there's a bunch of pinecones everywhere. Our Shiba picked one up in his mouth and we kind of thought it was cute so we played fetch with it. Initially I didn't think twice about it because it's nature and wood-like so I thought it'd be fine. We played then went inside. Something nagged at me to check if it was truly safe and nontoxic so I looked it up and saw while its not toxic... there were warnings about splintering and hurting their mouths. So I was like "Okay, so no more of that."
Oh we were so wrong....
Every. Single. Pinecone. He sees now. He's obsessed. He'll pee on his walks but he's already very cautious with pooping and now the pinecones are just straight up distracting him from going. And they are everywhere.
Yeah. We f'ed up with one pinecone... any advice would be welcomed - How do I break him of this pinecone obsession without eliminating all pinecones within the area?
He's pretty decent about leave it... but for some reason he won't let these go.
