What’s a “professional” thing people do at work that feels completely fake to you?

I have been working for a while and I started to notice how performative corporate culture can feel sometimes.

People faking passion in meetings, faking networking on LinkedIn, pretending to be busy all day, forced positivity, “we’re a family” speeches, or managers pretending to be supportive while everyone is clearly burnt out.

What is something “professional” at work that feels fake or tiring to you now?

What’s something companies do to “increase productivity” that actually makes employees less productive?

Many workplaces implement new rules, tracking systems, meetings or productivity tools, claiming they increase efficiency, but sometimes they just make people more stressed and mentally exhausted.

Things like constantly checking in, micromanaging, unnecessary meetings, tracking every minute, or expecting people to be online all the time.

What’s something your workplace did to improve productivity that actually made things worse?
