why would concurrent filing i-140/485 speed up the processing time

Like title. I've heard many people (and my law firm) said that it might speed up processing time but I'm still confused as to why. Genuinely asking because I'm debating whether I should do it

  1. They won't consider your 485 unless your 140 is approved. Why would they look at your 485 package simultaneously with your 140?

  2. I heard that concurrent filing cases get processed at other service centers and not NBC which is where the processing time is faster. Is this true?

Thanks!

I'm preparing both I 140 and 485 with Chen right now (approval or refund), they're getting back to me with the petition letter for I 140 next week. If everything goes well we should be set to file I 140 in late May/early June (with PP) the latest. I'm also prepping my documents for I-485 and should have that done around the same time.

My problem is that my OPT is ending in November 2026. I talked to Chen about how faster concurrent filing would be, and they advised against it because they've seen delays for concurrent filing cases before. But if I file after receiving I-140 approval (hopefully), the earliest I could file my I 765 (with 485) would be in June/July 2026.

Would filing I 765 in July be too risky in my case?

I'm ROW and the I 485 PDs are current right now so I want to take advantage of it, but ofc being able to continue working is important (I'm a postdoc).
