We live in a suburban neighborhood and let our dog out to go to the bathroom and eat breakfast for about an hour around 7 am. Let him back in and then again around early afternoon same routine and then again towards the evening to eat dinner and we will be out with him during that time too. If he barks too much we will let him back in but mostly he’s just sunning and walking around. We never leave him in the yard when we aren’t home or late at night or any early than like 6:45 am. So he’s probably outside for three hours total if we are home throughout the day from 7 am to 7 pm. The problem: Our neighbors are continually threatening us with rude texts and putting plywood board on our fence saying they can’t tolerate the dog any longer. He’s not out all day or at all hours and I don’t let him bark excessively. He just barks now and then at the garbage truck or Amazon if he happens to see them. Are we being unreasonable? I feel like we should be able to let our dog out in our own backyard and run around within reason. He’s not chained up and he’s securely fenced and he’s not aggressive at all. I’m just not sure if I’m missing something or if we are doing the right thing here. The only interactions we have with them are these text messages. They got our number from the previous neighbors about two weeks after we moved in and have pretty much only ever been rude to us. I went over to introduce myself and bring cookies after the first time and it was cordial. But they’ve made no effort past that interaction about a year ago. Again just wondering if I missed something here??
