Hey! I rent a room in a house and I’m picking up home improvement projects to offset my rent. It’s a pretty sweet deal.
I have zero insulation experience but was asked to insulate the crawl space in the garage above one of the bedrooms. Figured it would be easy enough.
I found piles of scrap wood and when I moved them aside, I found this weird gravel, it almost looks like glass shards mixed with concrete pebbles.
I was up in the crawl space disturbing the material with PPE but then coughed up and sneezed black mucus…which I imagine isn’t good?
I googled the material and found it might be vermiculite but I’m unsure. Can someone with more experience confirm what this is?
Can I still work up there? How can I insulate on top of this or should I move the wood back and consider it a toxic lost cause?
Thanks!
