Northside Social is just a group of people from around The Woodlands who started getting together to meet new people and have people to go out and do things with. Most of us originally showed up not knowing anybody, and over time we've made a really good group of friends.

Edit 3pm... We heard the tables were all sold out and there was a cover charge to get into Sawyer Park Icehouse, I wasn't real interested in making the group stand all evening, so I change it back to Kirby Ice House.

We changed things up last Friday and went to Woody’s Hideaway in Conroe. We had a great time, so we’re doing it again this Friday.

We had a great turnout last week, with eight of us showing up. Mini golf ended up being closed, so we changed plans on the fly and went to an escape room instead—and had a great time.

A few months ago, someone made a Reddit post looking for people to hang out with. I decided to show up.

A few of us kept getting together, more people started showing up, and before we knew it, we had built a really good group of friends. Somewhere along the way, I ended up helping organize things, and now I’m inviting more people to come be part of it.

If you’ve wanted to meet new people but didn’t know where to start, that’s exactly why Northside Social exists.

We’re not a dating group. We’re not a networking group. We’re simply a group of people who enjoy getting out, meeting new people, and having a good time together.

Most of us showed up not knowing anybody. You don’t have to figure out how to break into an established circle. People find us, grab a seat, and usually fall right into the conversation.

We don’t divide everyone into age groups either. We have people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s, and everybody hangs out together.

We usually meet at Kirby Ice House on Friday and Saturday nights around 9:00 PM. A lot of the time, we’re perfectly happy sitting around the picnic tables, visiting, joking around, and catching up. Sometimes we stay there all night, and sometimes plans change and we end up walking over to Rose Rooftop or Goose's Acre.

We’ve also been doing Wednesday night trivia for the past several weeks, and it sounds like the group is already planning to do it again this week. We've also gone bowling, tackled escape rooms, gone to concerts, played game nights, and tried plenty of other random activities whenever someone has an idea.

The WhatsApp group is more than just a place to coordinate meetups. We’re a pretty chatty group, and sometimes the banter really takes off. It’s also where we coordinate plans and post any last-minute changes.

A couple of weeks ago I posted about getting a local social group started here in Kingwood.

We had our first meetup, started a WhatsApp group, and met some great people. Last week was a bit of a wash with the holiday weekend, so we never got Meetup #2 on the calendar.

So... let's try again.

I'm thinking Megaton Brewery might be a good place to meet, maybe Wednesday or Thursday around 7:00 PM.

Nothing formal.

Just a chance to grab a drink, an appetizer, or dinner, hang out for a couple of hours, and meet some local people. Come for 30 minutes or stay all evening—whatever works for you.

If Megaton isn't your thing, I'm completely open to other suggestions. The whole point of this group is that it's shaped by the people who are part of it.

This past week we had our first meetup.

A few of us got together, spent a couple of hours talking, and had a great time. That's really all I was hoping for.

The goal hasn't changed.

This isn't a dating group.

It isn't a networking group.

It's simply a chance for local people to meet other local people and have an easy place to start a conversation.

One thing I've learned is that a lot of people aren't necessarily looking for a specific activity. They're just looking for an opening. A place where they know people are welcome and where they don't have to walk into a room full of strangers and figure it out on their own.

We're planning to do it again this week.

Right now we're discussing meeting at Megaton Brewery in Kingwood on either Wednesday or Thursday evening, but we're open to suggestions if there's a place people think would work better.

We're also still figuring out what people are most interested in. Maybe it's a weekly meetup. Maybe it's coffee on a Saturday morning. Maybe it's happy hour, trivia, karaoke, dinner, or something else entirely.

The point isn't really the activity.

The point is creating opportunities for local people to meet and make connections.

Making Friends as an Adult Sucks. Does Kingwood Need Something Like This?

A while back, I joined a social group in The Woodlands that started with just a handful of people getting together to hang out.

Nothing formal. No big organization. Just a few people looking to meet some new people and have something to do besides sit at home.

Over time, it grew into a really active group and I've made some great friends through it.

Since moving to Kingwood, I've been wondering if there would be any interest in something similar over here.

Not a dating group.

Not a networking group.

Just a group of local people who are open to meeting other local people and hanging out from time to time.

Maybe it's meeting up one evening during the week for a couple of hours at a place like Brass Tap, having a drink, grabbing an appetizer, listening to karaoke, and just talking.

Maybe it's a Saturday or Sunday morning coffee meetup.

Maybe it's something completely different.

I'm not really trying to dictate what it becomes. Right now I'm mostly just trying to see if there's enough interest to get something started.

One thing I've learned from the Woodlands group is that a lot of people aren't necessarily looking for a specific activity. They're just looking for an opening. A place where they know people are actually open to meeting them and including them in the conversation.

Also, if you're specifically looking for a Friday or Saturday night social group, I've already got that covered. I'm part of a group in The Woodlands that regularly gets together on weekends. If that's more what you're looking for, send me a chat and I'll point you in the right direction.

Let's be honest: meeting people as an adult kind of sucks.

Most people already have their friend groups, everyone's busy with work, family, and life, and it can be surprisingly difficult to find people who are actually open to meeting someone new and inviting them into the conversation.

A while back, Northside Social was started because a few people wanted a group they could simply show up to and be a part of. Just people looking to get out, have fun, and meet some new people.

At this point we've built a pretty solid group with people from all walks of life. We've got people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s. Single, married, divorced, new to the area, lifelong locals—it doesn't matter. We aren't interested in breaking people up into age groups or cliques. Everybody's welcome.

And to be clear, this isn't a dating group. The goal isn't to find a relationship. The goal is to find your people.

This Friday we'll be at Kirby Ice House in The Woodlands starting sometime between 8:00 and 9:00 PM and hanging out until whenever. Lately we've mostly been staying at Kirby, but if the mood strikes us, we might wander over to Rose Rooftop or Goose's Acre later in the evening.

We've also done bowling nights, trivia, escape rooms, concerts, game nights, house parties, and other random events whenever somebody has an idea and people want to go.

The group exists for one simple reason: it's easier to try new things and meet new people when you already have a group to do it with.

Hi. I'm new to the neighborhood and looking for an exercise group relatively close to Mills Branch Village/Kingwood area. Prior to moving the this area, I did an outdoor boot camp (Camp Gladiator) for 7 years. I was hoping to find something similar. I'm not looking for a running club. Does anyone know of anything close that has a class that starts around 5:30-6ish weeknights?
