No more books on Ancient Rome, please!

Is anyone else bothered by the fixation that historical fiction authors (and publishers?) have on Ancient Rome?

Don't get me wrong. It's a fascinating period in the ancient world and history as a whole. However, my goodness it's not the only point in history that's worthy of fiction.

Conn Iggulden - he did an absolutely phenomenal series on the Mongol Empire. 5 books. Superbly written and I learnt so much. I was also fascinated as this is something I'd never learnt about in history.

However, for reasons that are unknown to me, he only seems to focus on Ancient Rome and Greece now which I just find really monotonous now.

It frustrates me that authors aren't willing to push the boat out and cover a region or time period that hasn't been done to death (e.g. China's warring states, feudal Japan etc.)

Surely there's more periods of history that are deserving of fiction than just Ancient Rome?
