Hey all! I hit a new PR on 5K today of 30:37 according to my garmin (phone said 29:30😭). I ran this in my adidas runfalcon 5 that I have had for a year and ran approximately 400km in, plus I have been using them for daily walking since the start of the year. I avg about 10k steps a day so that’s likely added another 250-300km minimum. Recently, I’ve been getting shin splits/tight calves on even slightly lighter runs/after a day w some extra walking (7-8km) and online research suggested it might be the shoes.

I have now ordered Nike Vomero Plus based on the amount of positive feedback I have seen but wanted to ask if you think I should still keep using the runfalcon 5 (will decide new pair/same pair based on responses) for daily walking and Vomero strictly for running or if I’m okay to use the Vomero for both? The Vomero (£130) were quite a lot more than the RunFalcon (£35) so I’m keen on them lasting a while but just was unsure as I didn’t see anyone mention using them for walking and I saw some stuff about 2 shoe setups but both for running, so neither really answered my query.

My goal is to keep improving my 5K so my distances aren’t insane, max 12-15km and I will use the Vomero for all types of running workouts (long, easy, intervals, tempo, race), I know they’re supposedly not good for speed work but I’m unsure if that’ll be much difference at my level.

Thanks in advance and please let me know if any further important context is missing.

Hey fellow runners, I have a 5k race this upcoming sunday, I did my 5k easy yesterday (Tuesday) but for some reason just did not feel good at all, my left shin hurts, left foot too, and i feel lower calf pain on both feet. I have 0 clue why as I didn’t feel too bad this past sunday on an easy 5k too. Now tomorrow (Thursday) I was meant to have my taper interval session to inject some speed since my last couple sesh have been easy and then a 2 day break before my race, but I’m wondering if the smarter play is to skip this session to avoid worsening it or if there is more risk in having done 0 speed work in the week leading up to the race. I don’t know if the symptoms could just be because I didn’t get great sleep.

My first ever race while training w Runna so was super unsure and hoped you guys could help direct me.

For extra context: I’m aiming for a sub 30 5K, and the interval taper will be 2k warm up, 5x400m @6:05/km, 1k cool down
